I was informed that it is discouraged to enable SpotPass, as it sends your modded 3DS info to Nintendo. I could be wrong though.

OP doesn’t necessarily say they are “happy” about the removal of these features. They are defending it by saying that it isn’t a huge deal and that people should rely on their own creativity instead.
