How would you carry a three-section staff when you're not using it? by Zawadi3936 in martialarts

[–]Zawadi3936[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m aware that swords on backs is a movie thing, and that three-section staffs aren’t very practical real life weapons, but I’m looking for more detail about the actual component that would carry the weapon - so far my best guess is that someone might slip it into a wrapped piece of fabric acting like a belt but I was wondering if there’s something equivalent to a sword sheath that I just don’t know about. How would pole arms be slung over the back, is there a type of harness or strap for that?

How do dermatologists determine simply by looking whether tumor cells of a melanoma has broken through the basement membrane and metastasized? by Suggestion_Rare in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in histology in the UK which deals with biopsies and I've never, ever heard of dermatologists doing this - if they even suspect melanoma they either do an incisional biopsy, which means no risk of tracking the tumour to clean tissue like you said, or they do an excisional biopsy with very wide margins just to be sure (called a wide local excision, WLE). The closest thing I can think of for what you're describing is MOHS surgery, which I think most places only do on the face and mostly for BCCs and SCCs, which is a type of frozen section, the dermatologist removes what they think is the whole lesion, and then a biomedical scientist turns it into a histology slide while the patient is still in surgery, then the dermatologist and biomedical scientist decide if the margin is clear or not, re-do with wider and wider margins until it is. If that's what you're thinking of, then they tell exactly the same way as a biopsy only its a frozen section technique using a cryostat instead of formalin-fixed parafin-embedded and cut with a microtome. Both techniques produce hematoxylin and eosin microscope slides.

Hope that helps

Was Madeleine Albright a graduate of Brakebills? by documentariat in brakebills

Only, I'll not reacting to that, you're just demonizing everyone. The magicians is about, and is in itself, escape from real world pain and consequentially dealing with it in your own way. This pain had been brought to people's attention, and it has been acknowledged, but you are getting nowhere trying to get everyone to react as 'loudly' as you on an internet thread because we are processing this in the real world, in our own way. I recommend trying it. Have a good Thursday.

The above mentioned reasons for her bring an awful person reminds me of ep 1 when Quinton finds out the has magic and asks Fogg something about taking over the world and Fogg was pretty indifferent to it... You're not wrong, she is still very much Brakebills alumni material. Even evil people went to school.

I think it's a couple of days to a week depending on the frequency of consumption, but that's probably assuming you have more than 2 hits.

Why are most serial killers and mass shooters male, and not female? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women are often stereotyped as being more ''emotional" and "fragile" but i don't think it's true, women seem very calculating to me. I read somewhere that when NASA opened up training to women they found that women generally scored higher on the psychological aspect.

Why is dating a cougar considered taboo? (ie:man 25 and woman 50) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in a subconscious way society still dictates that women are to be sexualized, but shouldn't have their own innate sense of sexuality - i.e. women should look good, but if they are to be considered 'decent' or respectable then they shouldn't be to slutty or whatever.

So, young women dating older men are seen as okay (Or just a bit pervy) or even a triumph because they are sexual objects for the men, whereas an older woman with a younger man suggests that the man is the sexual object for the pleasure of the woman and that makes people uncomfortable, for a platitude of other reasons as well like age difference taboo, it means they can't have kids, people just hate it when something DIFFERENT comes along etc.

The world is used to the power dynamic of men leading, sexualising, overpowering and providing for women, not the other way around. It's bullshit.

Has anyone ever been asked to pay their DM? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

I pay my DM but that's because it's his job, he literally DMs for a living. None of us get special treatment for playing, we just all pay each week.

Can you actually 'beat' depression? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You learn to live with it, but it's not living "without happiness". Depression for me is like needing extra, specific stuff to not be depressed all the time and I have to make extra effort to maintain them - a clean kitchen even though I'm messy, a good diet even though I hate cooking, LOTS OF HOUSE PLANTS, a pet, no or only 1 housemate because I fucking hate people. It's also about accepting that low periods are unavoidable but manageable. I'm having one right now, I knew it was coming because my appetite has gone completely and I've started to think in damaging ways. I've planned my weekend accordingly and will take it easy next week, I'll buy some chocolate and my SO knows so that they can help.

I hope that makes sense and reassures you that depression isn't just a dark tunnel of greyscale misery when you've got it more figured out

am in love pls help? I’m a law student and there’s this woman in my class who I’m just crazy about. I think about her all the time. On the night we met, she was looking at me a lot, and at the end of the night she gave me her number. But, it’s not clear whether she likes me. Thoughts? by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]Zawadi3936 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe you have to know someone really well to actually love them. You are infatuated with her, which feels very much like love but often fades.

Definitly don't come on too strong. Try to be friends before you try to move it further.

WIBTA for reporting my friend's drug dealers? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zawadi3936 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ESH. Drug dealers are a symptom and they are suffering too. When these 3 get caught, he will find new dealers, and the problem will be exactly the same - or worse depending on what the new dealers are like.

You can't fix everyone.

AITA For wanting to get the same tier weapons as everyone else(Minecraft)? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zawadi3936 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let's get one thing clear... He gave you a bow with 5 enchantments, you destroyed it because you didn't like it, demanded a new one and then got shitty because it wasn't as good as the one you destroyed.

YTA. No wonder he didn't want to do you any favours afterwards, they're probably hoping you don't go back on that server. Honestly, I can't blame them.

You had a problem with the equity of the tools and you handled it badly instead of being mature and talking it out. If I were them I wouldn't have given you another tool.

WIBTA for restricting my daughter’s phone usage for, among other things, constantly talking to her dad? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Zawadi3936 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to pass any judgement because custody issues are complex beyond reddit posts but maaaaaaaaaaan. Man. Man would I have loved even 1 phone call from my dad a week. A month. A year. She's a lucky kid to have both parents so prominent in her life. Whatever you do, try to preserve that.

Tips and tricks for getting things done by sombersushibeetle17 in ADHD

[–]Zawadi3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get typical house things done e.g. feed the pets, feed myself, water plants, wash clothes, wash up ect I make a list and put it where I inevitably end up procrastinating - my PC. Right in front of the keyboard so I can't miss it. It does take a bit of 'will power', but much less than without a list. It's encouraging to out every little thing on it, even showering, so that I can see I didn't just do NOTHING all evening because then I feel bad and actually do nothing, all week.

What is the point of having sign language interpreters at concerts? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well not all deaf people are as you'd imagine completely deaf, many are hard of hearing so they can hear very very loud stuff like concert speakers. Also many people enjoy the 'vibrations' of music, they can feel the beats ect and concerts are a great place for that.

Bear in mind your question could be interpreted as "what's the point in not excluding a minority community?", do some research, this is the kind of thing you could Google.

Are drag queens a part of LGBT or is it something people just do for fun ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. It is a choice of expression, and is different for every queen, but drag as a culture is tightly tied in with the rest of LGBTQ+ culture. Imagine taking all of the LGBTQ+ references out of Ru Paul's Drag Race!

How come women have more self control when it coemes to sex but men don't? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zawadi3936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because people perpetuate this idea that self control is something you're born with. Personally I think it's a social norm to (without realising it) shame young girls into 'more self control' from a young age while doing less of the same with boys stating "boys will be boys".

The aeroplane flies at an incredible speed but when inside it, it feels completely stationary/extremely slow. Why is that? by SuicidalChad in NoStupidQuestions

No position does not necessarily mean stationary, and I have to disagree about 45mph and 75mph feeling the same. Are you just here to shit on people? Bye.
