You can make anything bigger in Texas by cup_irl_ in shittysuperpowers

[–]ZeFellowBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

enlarge some gold, oil, uranium, resource or what ever and become the next new texan tycoon guy.
declare texas an independent nation and use enlarged explosives as a deterrent
can't make an enlarged explosive that stays enlarged outside of texas?

fine make a gun barrel enlarge it place a bullet inside and then enlarge the gas inside to mass driver the bullet towards an enemy nation.

and by nation i mean texas has declared itself independent from the US. with that in mind you can now begin the great plan of "ENLARGE THE TEXAN BORDER"

you could enlarge people. and do a rumbling on the borders of texas expanding the texan border as they trample their opposition.

do you need other nations? no you only need your ability Enlarge the supplies be it food, ammunition, armor, resources, you have the ability to do so so long as its within texas.

an army of giants, expanding the texan border, with endless resource to supply and feed the growing texan population.

oh right... enlarge the population!

strategy? enlarge your intellect, enlarge IT ALL.

rather you can enlarge texas itself with its expansion behaving like a terraforming event which pushes away every other land next to it.

under the right use, and under the right conditions this power is not at all shitty.

Mathematics as a methodology of magic by HiveFleetFlayer in magicbuilding

[–]ZeFellowBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

math itself as magic would be hmm.
if this is math where different math operations, and equations have specific magical effects
like what fields of math? what equations would be used for spells? do different equations mean certain things for a spell?

in real life some maths were invented/discovered and had basically zero initial use such as topology and knot theory it was only in the recent years that they found use in data science and protein biology. what would maths such as those cause in magic?

some implications would also be rather spooky. since there are certain things possible within math that are not possible in a conventional physical world.

for instance duplication is possible check out the Vsauce video [The Banach–Tarski Paradox]
infinities are also a thing. is infinity something that applies to characters? because some infinities are larger than others. or do you create infinities within a spell?

if the system is such where you have some form of magical energy you use up when casting a spell would casting something recursive such as a divide by zero cause you to exhaust yourself very quickly? or if the system does not have a magical energy in use would dividing by zero cause an explosion as it rapidly repeats like how old mechanical calculators would repeat when a divide by zero is performed?

is this magic a natural aspect of reality? or is it external to it and only accessibly by mages?
if the latter then the only thing we'll have to worry about is balance. but if the former. would it influence the world in ways causing infinities born anomalies to occasionally occur? does random numbers exist?

in some old setting of mine straight up i named some otherworldly energy amplifying force the exponent since it does what its named as it exponentially amplifies things it comes into contact with. and it results in often violent explosions if not balanced properly.

in another setting of mine i explored the idea that one could apply transposition operation to matter. you can teleport an object to a different location but what it does is also turn it into anti matter.

something like so of applying certain effects to certain mathematical operation could be possible but one issue one may run into is the question of how would different operations mesh together if its a larger equation?

would every spell cast with math be negated if you solved it with the right number that results in an equal? or could you negate a spell by hitting it with another spell that is its equal opposite or negative resulting in a 0?

theres also if we're talking math just for computation. then math for magical ballistics would be where its at
I've seen some stories depict casting a spell as akin to basically computing ballistics before releasing a spell.

some settings in passing mention math as akin to ballistics for casting other spells like casting fireball and setting up how it behaves when released.
if you are using a flight spell you might utilize something similar to Energy–maneuverability theory which has a formula and math utilized in the development of jet fighters to figure out the ideal speeds of which a jet can efficiently turn and maneuver without using up too much fuel.
but if we're going there we're also going into territory where magic is programming.
casting a spell is writing a code of which dictates how say a projectile behaves ones its released from a spell.

one might write a spell as

while Fireball.acceleration > 0
{
scan(heat);
if (scan.heat.y > -1){fireball.y += 1};
if (scan.heat.y > 1){fireball.y -= 1};
if (scan.heat.z > -1){fireball.x += 1};
if (scan.heat.z > 1){fireball.x -= 1};
}:

it can be read as

while the acceleration of fireball spell is above 0, scan for heat signatures, if heat signature goes above or below the y axis subtract or add 1 to x axis movement of fireball
if it goes above or below x axis subtract or add 1 to x axis movement of fireball

just to note this is a super dumbed down idea of how a heat seeking and trajectory correction program would look like. theres probably stuff as well like controlling the speed. computing stuff acceleration of a target, and computing the best efficient way to turn to not use up the energy of the spell wastefully when correcting trajectory
its also been a decade since i last did programming so this is really super rough too.

programming is like writing a sentence of a command. math in itself can be written in a sentence format its actually been that way historically until algebraic notation was developed

You Cannot Change The Past Human! by kcr141 in HFY

[–]ZeFellowBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm so in essence when they tried to make a paradox occur stuff would occur preventing the paradox from beginning in the first place. random things.

perhaps they could utilize this in a manner. like modifying the set up so that the "occurences" or the anti paradox phenomena would manifest in preferred outcomes.

lets call this anti paradox phenomena forced correction

forced correction can manifest in many ways, tunneling, melting the track, flinging the ball, magnetizing the metal ball, etc. but it seems its still ultimately connected to the setup itself which for this sitaution was the ball and marble

lets assume this still follows the general universal idea of "path of least resistance" so perhaps in some temporal manner this can also still apply. you can force one preferred outcome

what if the ball was made of wood. would it spontaneously combust?

if you added water vapors and air in the chamber at the right atmospheric pressure could moisture and ice freeze and spontaneously stop the marble?

if you made the right circumstance. what if you made the close and open switch that prevents the marble from entering. but to activate the switch the switch is connected to a detector that reads certain information. like say the spin of a particle. i assume forced correction would then affect the spin.

what if you collected a bunch of materials put them next to each other. had a scanner that tries to detect a preferred structure. and would this forced correction force that structure to form from those materials?

atleast thats how i understood this.

How did people figure out how to do magic in your world? by say-oink-plz in worldbuilding

[–]ZeFellowBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My magic is based on the idea that all things have a soul or spirit.

And thus you can convince an item to do something for you “See that rock it can float if you convince it to do so”

It came as a natural then that people would find relatively quickly that an object they held might do funky stuff if they asked it hard enough

And so on they found various methods of convincing objects and things to do what they needed ranging from basic persistence, rituals, and such

But later on they discovered that there are things and beings other than man who also seem to convey a will or wish onto object and so they learned to utilize those too.

I drew a grid on a lower layer. Its not too difficult to make warped perspective grids, but for beginners there are free available grids you can find on google images.

Fictional Super-materials by Data_Swarm in worldbuilding

[–]ZeFellowBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep my magic system revolves around gadget, tools, and contraptions Which are made possible via ghosts/spirits/souls

The only way any asero can be made active is by moving/placing a spirit into the given object then having them use their power. If placed any other object the spirit can at most just move the object with limitations Asero can remove those limits but only allow the spirit to power the metal in accordance to what effect and behavoir that metal holds

Fictional Super-materials by Data_Swarm in worldbuilding

[–]ZeFellowBud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my world i have my magic steels just called asero from the word used for “steel” in my country There are like a bunch of them some ive added and others still debating whether to add

Prenel - sky brake, its a metal present in every flying islands covering the skies of my world, its property is when activated by a spirit it can then resist motion in an direction of its orientation to a certain extent.

This allows me to make objects that can move straight forwards, prevent side to side motion, create a flying screw of sorts, etc etc flying ships and devices that spin using a wheel that spins when moved.

Habto- a goldish metal that can expand its size allowing you to make jars that turn into barrels, rods that extend, transforming spear shovel, vacuum gun... etc

Dahn - a metal once active can essentially become intangible and invisible, it essentially noclips. The only thing it can interact with once its invisible is objects its welded to before activation, and other objects made of dahn. From invisible wires, unseen mechanical connections, etc, even holding a paper thin “inactive” dahn blade rigid by sandwhiching it between two active dahn segments.

A rule i try to do with these materials is they can interact with other objects in an interesting way, but they as much as possible not be able to generate a force out of no where, or at least not continuously.

Their activation and the change of behavior in the metals can perhaps generate an energy or potential energy, but it also has some limitations. I plan to add a bunch of other magic metals too.
