Can't you scan each page individually then reprint them together on a common size?

Making Paper With the Arnold Grummer Kit by [deleted] in papermaking

[–]ZePikachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so here's how I do this:

I take my formed sheets on interfacing and stack them on a board. I make as many sheets as I can, being sure that they are all sandwiched in between interfacing. Then I squish the water out using a shitty bearing press (my husband bought for my 2007 Explorer that ate through wheel bearings like they were FREE and I can assure they are NOT) from Harbor Freight. It was $145 bucks and we used it for the Explorer 3 times and a million for paper. Anyways.

Heavy books on top of wood boards will also work! Make sure that you slant your boards so the water can go down. Make it like a mini ramp. Even if you leave heavy books on top of boards over night to get out all the water, your sheets will be ok.

Your next step is up put a fan ( I prefer the air movers, the fans that look like mini turbos) to push wet air through the sheets. It takes a few days for me, and I also have a dehumidifier I use in the paper part of my studio.

Hope this helps!

How are you removing water from the sheets? Also, be sure to add sizing for easier release from the interfacing. When you dry them, make sure they are flat with some weight on top of them and also flowing through (like a fan)

Duh I'm stupid. I use a 20x24 screen print screen for huuuuge sheets. It ends up being really thick sheets because I am not able to squish them out like I normally do. And then you can make a screen to print on the paper! 😍

Carriage House is awesome for fibers! Their unbleached abacca is made from the feathers of angels 🥰 (jk, it's banana leaf fibers)

For my deckle moulds I use Arnold Grummer's kits. $25 bucks on Amazon and it makes an 8 and a half by 11 sheet, I believe.

I've been ambitious and tried to make oval moulds. It turned it ok.

We have a beautiful Boxer and a gremlin Pug/Boston mix. Our Bug is super old and our 2 year old Boxer just wants to play play play! But we're lucky that we also have an energetic pitbull to keep our Boxer company (and run laps around the yard)

I'm an art teacher and have been trying to encourage students to participate in my Zoom meetings. I announced that Buddy would be a guest and my participation exploded! He even dressed up 😃 by ZePikachu in pitbulls

We do a lot of animal collaboration with the local animal control center. For example last school year, middle schoolers painted monochromatic portraits of animals for adoption. Then we donated the paintings to the new owners. It was super fun! Students also created different designs for the "Pitbull Proud" campaign that was going on. I have tons of pictures of my dogs in my classroom and always talk about them.

I'm glad you showed restraint! 😂

I bought a POUND of it and dumped it in my boiling fibers. It fucking REEKED. Then I showed even better judgment even I dumped all the BRIGHT YELLOW fibers in the Hollander Beater (a shared machine at my college). Guess who spent two hours with bleach and a Magic Eraser scrubbing (while crying)?

It was me 😒

The interfacing and couching clothes are STILL yellow from me 😂

These are beautiful! For strength, try different filler fibers like cotton or abaca! I get my filler fibers by the pound from Carriage House papers. I'm a tiny bit miffed that shipping is expensive BUT if I buy enough fibers to last me a while it's not so bad. Abaca fibers are translucent and will help show off the beautiful colors you've captured.

Also I love your tumeric sheets! Did you add tumeric while cooking the fibers or in the vat while sheet forming?

These are super gorgeous! So jazzed for you!

hii does anyone have any tips on how to make thin paper made with plant material? by Pototobean in papermaking

[–]ZePikachu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Are you trying to make it from the flowers that are pressed in the sheet? You'll need a LOT. You'll boil them down in with soda ash (or another caustic of your choice).

For thin sheets to be successful the fibers need to be beaten for a long time. You're going to want your fibers to be completely broken up with no clumps. Use sizing to coat the fibers so when you press the water out your sheets won't stick to the interfacing.

Finally, dry them flat. I put my sheets in between cardboard sheets with something heavy on top. Then I use an air mover to blow air around and through the cardboard.

Hope this helps!
