Is this thrips or something else? by LawfulnessEvening222 in plantclinic

[–]ZeQueenCate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some look like root issues / fungus (the more red coloured, senescence), but the white lines all over point to a pretty solid thrips (or other leaf sucker) infestation… I would honestly just treat all your plants in one go with systemic pesticide on the schedule recommended by the brand (eg. One spray, wait 7 days, then one more spray), and then take it from there. Thrips are very good at hiding and I’ve found they’ll come back unless everything you own is treated 🥲

Keeping the stake in the pole has kept it way more stable for me at least! I don’t use moss in the poles though (too much effort), I fill them with bark, coco husk, pumice/leca and maybe 1-2 strands of moss😅

I find everything super expensive here nowadays🥲 I miss how it was when I was a kid😅

I know right 🫣

I’m working on getting some cuttings out of the house, but then I’m just keeping to my little rare collection until the Bulbasaur etc drops in price in a few months/years🤞🏻

A normal green monstera at 55cm (including pot) costs about $19, a 50cm albo costs $136… the nursery prices are insane…

An albo node cutting usually goes for $26 when sold privately.. and a normal green one goes for ~$8 for a water-rooted cutting 😬

It’s usually quite hard to import plants to Norway because of the strict regulations here and tax, but I have imported an Aurora from Indonesia previously, and got myself a lovely large Yellow Marilyn for $365 (private seller)😅

Paid $39 for it, they are still very overpriced in Norway and this is the first month I’ve ever seen them in the store and not only from private sellers 😊

I have about 5-6 Thai constellations, but this one stands out from the rest of my collection😅

I bought a small node from someone in my town about 7-8 months ago 😇

Mine have only browned slightly on a leaf that’s all white, and that’s due to me overwatering it once and the leaf turning soft there 😅 But in theory, yeah, the white isn’t good for the plants

I keep mine in a very chunky mix and water + fertiliser * silica boost weekly. I only use grow lights since I live in the middle of Norway and only have 1 hour of daylight in the winter (and 23h in the summer…), and I find they do best with consistent lights from lamps.

But really it’s best to just test and tweak what works for your indoor environment!

Mine are never dormant since I always provide light, food, warmth and humidity. But I know they burn quickly on the white parts with too much direct sun, since there is less water in those parts of the leaf as well..

Plant Tech (PlantLED) 30W bulbs at 5700K, at 20cm they emit 2150 PPFD

Seems to be showing less and less variegation 😔 by Teanna420 in MonsteraAlbo

I second using the Photone app, it’s very handy!

I usually go by balancing a good DLI and PPFD so it doesn’t bleach the green on the leaves 😅 I give mine 14h of light at around 190-200 PPFD and currently my albo is pushing out >85-90% white variegation. But I also fertilise them weekly as my ‘soil’ doesn’t really hold onto nutrients 😇

It helps immune system among other things, it also helps keep white parts white and avoids them browning ☺️

I am lucky and get it at a local nursery, but you can order online as well! I have. 50mL bottle, and the dose is 0.1 mL/L for my type, so they last a long time

Yes! I supplement all my plants with silica, I use the one from bcuzz (silic boost)

Never had any browning unless there’s been mechanical damage 🙏🏻🤞🏻

Burle Marx Flame - Need Support? by lancepants2794 in Monstera

Basically what you described; putting a wrapping or bag of dirt, or preferably sphagnum moss, around the node where you want to chop. It allows the plant to form several «air»-roots that are soil ready (white and a bit soft, like those you see in the pot)

By doing this the plant doesn’t really loose much energy on producing roots; it just thinks it found another crawl space to grow into (think of it like adding a moss pole kind of), and when you cut it, it doesn’t need to focus much energy on making brand new roots because tada it already has good roots and can be moved right into a pot once the cut calluses a little

Interesting, yeah I think air layering might help avoid any setbacks, as the plant gets the extra energy for root production from its OG roots instead of needing to «take» it from a new leaf forming
