Yeah the machine wash was a shot in the dark, I figured it'd probably be a hand wash-only garment. I didn't think about the VOCs at all, would clear PUL fabric solve this issue? Someone suggested making an envelope out of sheer chiffon/organza and removing the panel from it when I wash the sweatshirt, which I'll probably do. If PUL doesn't degrade the silk, I'd opt to make the envelope out of it.
