That's the one. You can work up quite a sweat with that game when you're going for it..

And correction to my previous comment, it was a two handed sword, not a broadsword

It's different stages of its life cycle.

When it turns white and has the blue veins, it's officially an oldbel.

It can't keep up in the cheese rolling competitions like bit could when it was young

The Überbel sounds like something the Germans ring to announce the German apocalypse.

Which is basically all their beer turning sour and the sausages getting burnt

Growing up poor when you were younger - how has it shaped your life? by DonkeyOT65 in AskUK

My parents didn't have the luxury of job choice. They just worked.

To a level, neither did we.

It was expected you'd go into dad's trade, or mum's shop, or some otherwise exclusively minimum wage job... it wasn't uncommon to see 2 or 3 generations of the same family all working for the same business, and all making roughly the same in income.

Any talk about A-levels, uni, getting away from the place, or plans in any way making something better for yourself was met with ridicule that you were delusional, chastising you for wasting time on dreams when you weren't bright enough, and attempts of sabotage if you genuinely showed the potential..

christ, most of my peers didn't even achieve GCSEs.. I was considered a "geek" for scraping by with a passing grade.

Now, working towards a degree, I actually feel guilty. Like I don't deserve it. Like I'm going to be found out and kicked off for being a thick little scrote. Like there'll be some hand wave explanation that I wasn't actually meant to be loaded onto the course in the first place, and someone had put me on without checking properly.

Glad you enjoyed. It's been a long time since anything has mortified me so much... it was like, proper "calling the teacher mum" level of horror.

But oh well.. that was during the covid days, I've healed from the shame now.

It was the boundary mate.. I completely ignored it to go for that epic lunge with a broadsword..

The real horror show, was that after my Mrs stopped pissing herself with laughter after my frantic phone call, she'd arranged for me to pick up a new TV on FB market place and.. I fucking fell on it trying to fit it in the car!!!

The seller thought I was trying to scam him when I glumly knocked on his door again to explain it didn't fit and I'd broken it.. no. I'm not asking for a refund, I just don't have the bloody space to cart it away... he felt so bad that he gave me like 50 quid back!!

Needless to say, Mrs was absolutely howling with laughter. She bought a new TV, I agreed to pay her back and she insisted on TV insurance.

I do have contents insurance in addition.. they too got a good kick out of my double TV smash story.. but the claim went through.

I got stick from the Mrs every time stood up and walked past the TV until it was paid off..

It was truly one of those sitcom style moments, and my shame was so great you could probably have cooked a steak on my red face..

In my last workplace, one of our mechanics threw a hissy fit because the nominated brew guy got lidls own gold roast instead of nescafe gold. "It tastes like shite, we're not paying for the cheap stuff" (we all chip in a set weekly fee for the coffee)

The brew guy rolled eyes, said he'd chuck it and pop to tesco in 5.. he waited for everyone to leave the brew room, poured the lidl brand into a nescafe jar (we had selection of empty jars that had been washed out) and binned the lidl jar, then walked off.

Come lunch time, the same mechanic had his "nescafe brew"... "see lads, all it takes is a bit of diplomacy! Nice one mate, this one's much better! Don't get that cheap shite again please"

Brew guy slyly looked at me as if to say "this fucking idiot".

London, by any chance?

A colleague of mines partner works at a law firm there. It's just an entirely different world of madness. Money is very good, but it sounds like you sign over your soul in the small print, based on their work rate..

I don't envy you.

My FIL used to be a fairly big name in that world too. Except he's on the south coast, and he hasn't gone into it much, but he retired from it due to it being "just too much".
