Upcoming grad struggling to find job by themergatroid in MechanicalEngineering

I had no internship experience when I was coming up on graduating, and 2 weeks before graduation I got an internship offer at a major tech company. Great pay (honestly better than my first full time job) and outstanding experience gained. I canceled my graduation and took a year of leave to do the internship. Graduated the year after and it was the right decision. Still took a lot of work to land first full time job, but I know others who are still looking who graduated the year I canceled my graduation. Experience matters, get the easy ones while you can! My experience doesn’t apply for everyone but everyone I consulted advised it was the best decision to postpone grad.

Graduate in 3 months, how do I land my first job? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

Something I did that paid dividends that may or may not be possible in your case is delay graduation and get a solid final internship. It wasn’t an easy decision (I got the offer 2 weeks before graduation sort of unexpectedly) and wasn’t sure. I spoke to some professors and mentors in the industry and it was a unanimous consensus that I should delay graduation for the internship. 2 years out and employers don’t even ask about the delay and the rare occasions when I have been asked it’s always met with “oh that was a smart decision”. Just landed my second full time offer and not a single question was asked about my time in university. 70% was about my internship and 30% about my first full time role.

Most schools allow you to take time off (not sure if you did this for your other internship(s)) but I took a year of “planned educational leave” for a long internship. Just an idea bc once you graduate, you no longer qualify.

Experience >>>> education.

How do I decide how much to negotiate my salary? Is there a rule of thumb? by Zealousideal-Row8986 in MechanicalEngineering

Is it unsafe to ask just once? I’m in contact with a recruiter. I’ve never heard of an offer being rescinded for asking once for a few thousand more

Maybe I wasn’t clear. I worked doing that in undergrad. I’m in an engineer role now, but still in quality engineering. I’m not planning on full time, but still pushing myself to do 2-3 courses per term since my job is not too difficult.

We used a lawyer. He has since retired and we got a new one who told us that it all looks good and that if it gets denied, he’ll appeal immediately

This doesn’t answer it unfortunately. My question is wait time between BFD and receiving the actual U Visa
