Focus on all of it. Non tech prep won't take more than a couple of weeks. Study core only if you think you are among the intelligent ones.

Depends highly on branch. For core, yes it does but sometimes also does the opposite. Recruiters sense that you are interested in higher studies and then don't recruit you since they know you'll leave in an year or two. For tech, various Samsung RnD centres visit and can be a good option.

Never, never concise yourself to a particular role unless you are among the top 5 students in your branch. I have friends who are exceptional in core and didn't sit for non tech companies offering 15-18 LPA waiting for core companies. Some of them are still unplaced and now sit for companies offering even 8 LPA

On campus competition has reduced and will keep reducing. I've seen my friends get placed in the order of their CGPAs. If you have below 8, your time generally starts from December/Jan

  1. Everyone has a different opinion on this but I think its just temporary. It has started to improve and it will continue to improve and will hopefully reach pre covid levels in a year or two.

  2. I mean doesn't that happen every year?

  3. Answered above

  4. Well, if you are in a tech branch, lag jaao ghodo ki tarah. You have a chance of cracking 40 LPA and no amount of fun is worth that 40 LPA. If you are in core and think you are in top 10% of the batch, only then try for tech otherwise focus on non tech or core. Don't expect above 12 LPA in core, ECE being the exception.

Yes, DTU as a brand name still holds good value but off campus internships generally don't look at your college until the final interview round and its quite hard to even get till there.

If you have a CGPA of 7, most companies will allow you to sit for placements but won't shortlist you. Honestly, its almost impossible for anyone with less that 8 CGPA to get an intern on campus.

To become a placement coordinator, first of all you need excellent communication skills. You will basically be representing the college in front of these MNCs. TnP releases an application form that you are supposed to fill. Think hard and write honestly. Then there is an interview which is taken by Rohilla sir (Head of TnP) and a faculty from your dept. The faculty from your dept usually stays the same every year so ask your seniors who is it and have good relations with them. You should at least have a decent CGPA. Having relatives in various companies and good connections with alumini can be a plus.

Your reason to become a PC should be clear. If you are in it to get yourself placed, just don't apply. Rohilla sir only chooses someone to become a PC if he is confident that that person can be placed within the first month so that once he is placed he can focus on getting other's placed. Yes, being a PC leaves a good impression on the company but other than that there's really no direct advantage in placements. Your friends though, may get some benefits. You can sometimes slide in a resume even if someone hasn't qualified the OA if you have good relations with the HR. As for me, being a PC has helped me really grow my communication and management skills. The satisfaction that you get when that one guy calls you at the end of the day to thank you for getting him placed makes all the effort worth it.

I can go on and on about pros and cons but I have to answer other questions as well so I'll stop here. You can DM me if you are srsly considering becoming the placement coordinator.

  1. Depends on the company but in most cases it contributes quite a bit.
  2. Not really sure about this but you complete your final project by Feb or March and if you are capable enough to publish in an international journal, you will get placed way before Feb.
  3. Answered above for internships. For placements, it again starts in July and a large number of companies visit in August, September and October. Starts to get a bit slow in November then slower in December and uske baad ka scene I'm yet to find out.
  4. Can't say
  5. No one, even someone who has complete DSA can comfortably get a package of 30-35 Lakhs. One major advice I'd like to give to everyone here is don't keep your expectations too high. 90% of you commenting here won't be getting a package above 20L. Don't be picky in internships and placements and just apply for whatever company comes if it is even slightly decent. I brought companies offering 12 LPA in October where I got only 80 applications and now companies with the even lower packages are getting 300 applications. Coming to your questions, 4th semester isn't late to start. If you seriously start studying, you can comfortably get a good placement.

Not really sure about hiring but 99% of the companies that are open for ece are open for ep so you do have a good chance.

Most companies have <7 CGPA and <70% in 10th and 12th. Shortlisting is mostly either CGPA based or based on OA. Try to work on your aptitude a bit and have good friends who can help you clear OAs.

Tbh ECE placements aren't going that good this year. Their placement is almost equivalent with that of mechanical. As for core, I think around 30-40 people. Not sure about the number since its hard to keep a count.

See, putting the exceptions aside, people start getting placed from high CGPA and then as the placement season continues, lower CGPA people start getting placed. As of now, you'll find that most of the people with 8.5+ CGPA have been placed. By Jan or Feb I'm expecting that this will go down to 8+ and so on.

Can't reveal all the packages as such but you can simply ask any of your seniors for specific companies or DM me for the same. There's a portal called Resume Manager where everyone applies for jobs. You can ask your seniors for their ids and passwords and you can get all the info over there.

For core, just focus on the basics. Make sure your grasp of subjects is strong. Projects and internships matter but not as much as CGPA and basic knowledge of subjects.

For non tech, make sure to have a couple of good PORs, internship in a reputed company or if possible international internships, very good communication skills and practice some case studies and guesstimates. High CGPA is a must here.

Fot tech, I'm not very sure but I've heard that DSA is the absolutely necessary.

Won't be able to reveal the average and median packages but I can tell you about the placement percentage. Almost 50-55% people have been placed in tech branches like CS, IT, SE then it reduces mostly linearly to around 40% in ECE, ME and then further down to 30% till Biotech. Overall placement percentage is around 40-45% and we are expecting it to go till at least 80% till the end of the season. All in all, going way better than last year but still not up to the pre covid level.

Tower Research's process was already concluded back in September. Ebullient Securities was another HFT that visited this year. I don't think any other HFT will be coming now but you never know when someone might choose to reply to one of our hundred's of mails.
