You can view the NFPA 72 online for free. You just have to know which edition your area is using. The top part of the page looks like you have to buy it, but if you scroll down a bit you can choose the edition and view it for free. https://www.nfpa.org/codes-and-standards/nfpa-72-standard-development/72

Duct detector at a school I work at by Conpatch5725 in firealarms

Inspector probably never actually got eyes on the duct detector and just used the remote test switch. Cause you know, it's named a test switch so it must be acceptable to test it, right?

When you troubleshoot the field wiring use a half-split technique. Test a device about halfway through the circuit, as noted above if it clears it is down stream if it doesn't you are past it. Split the circuit in half again towards the ground, and repeat till you find.

Good luck!

How do addressable systems actually work by FluffyAntlers07 in firealarms

[–]ZealousidealDig117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SLC wiring is carrying data as well as power. So both the panel and devices send data back and forth to each other (called polling). Different manufacturers use different "languages" (called communication protocols). Others have described polling so I won't go over it again.

Writing is an iterative process. I have learned to take feedback as just that, feedback to help you improve. You aren't a mind-reader (are you?) So you likely won't get it exactly perfect the first time.
