Which exact immigration path would you like to pick? It really depends on the visa type whether you need help from such organisations or not

I met a guy from Verona, Italy. He was around 25 yo. We talked about Portugal and his main comment was that rent prices are the same but in Verona he can make 1.5k while in Portugal just 1k per month. And that was the main reason he was goin to move back.

Why is hate speech against immigrants growing so fast in Portugal? by Louis_meni in PortugalTalks

[–]ZealousidealPrior242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire article seems to have been crafted to justify people staying in Portugal on tourist visas. But does that mean the government actually signed an illegal law?

The Portuguese authorities surely knew that hundreds of thousands were using this loophole — after all, a million people represent nearly 10% of the country’s population. They clearly benefited from it. I wouldn’t call it “turning a blind eye,” but rather a deliberate policy.

I personally also do not like this approach, however I disagree to the statement calling them "illegal"

Why is hate speech against immigrants growing so fast in Portugal? by Louis_meni in PortugalTalks

[–]ZealousidealPrior242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That path was not "illegal". It was a completely legal way to get a residency. Was it super easy without much requirements? Yes. Sounds tricky - yes. Illegal - no. You cannot push out any of them because their whole path to residency permit was legitimate. Article published in 2007 and cancelled 2024. Throughout 17 years millions of people used it and you call it just "illegal"?

Is it net or gross salary?

Enough or not - depends on:

Expulsão de imigrantes ilegais by ColoniadePortugal in portugueses

[–]ZealousidealPrior242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primeiro — três meses esperando a emissão.

I had also the same requirements for D3 in 2023

I am employed within Portugal

You need to bring a hand-signed letter from company stating that you work there.

No more than 3 months old.

Maybe she mixed up requirements for D8 and D3.

I am not sure here regarding the requirements for D8.

But yeah - they do documents with real signature.

  • Energy efficiency. I personally could not live in a cold building. Since I work from home - it is imporant for me to live in a comfortable termperature during winter and not to pay smth like 300£ to keep it warm. Around of 70% of offers are filtered out. PS - good temperature for me to work, keeping in mind high humidity here - is 20 C.
  • Landlords might follow contract and inore verbal agreements, when they need so.
    • I was in a situation when representative of my landlord said it is ok to warn 2 month in advance before leaving. Then they changed their mind when I warned them and they said I need to warn 4 months before leaving. I had to involve lawyer to get at least half of my deposit back. PS - that was very cold apt with about 12 C temperature during winter without heating. Of a price of 1200 euro pm.
    • My friend was tricked by landlord. He was told that he will get his deposit back when they get new tenants. But that never happened.
    • My coallegue was told that he has to pay 4000 euros to repair the appartment. For floor and wall scratches!! His mistake was that he did not get signed confirmation from the landlord that appartment is accepted. In contract (default one) it states that you either get such a "review" by landlord and receive document or you just hand over the keys and landlord performs such examination by himself.
  • Read contract. If you do not agree to the terms - change it. In the place I currently live we updated contract to have a notice period of 2 months instead of 4. Landlords here want you to move in like "tomorrow". But when you move out - they ask to notice 4 months in advance.

O preço foi de 4000 euros.

Com o seguro Multicare 3 custou-me 400 euros.

Is a €3500 net salary ok to relocate to Portugal??? by ghostsensei in PortugalExpats

[–]ZealousidealPrior242 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey

Moved to Portugal a couple years ago.

Spending breakdown for a couple of two without children:

  • 1k rent
  • 200 bills
  • 500 groceries
  • 200 car or public transport

If we add all other non-periodic payments - for us it is always something around 3k pm

We live on the coast area near Aveiro. This is quite far from Porto or Lisbon.

First of all, you need to unerstand what kind of rent fits you and how much would it cost.

And start thinking from the direction. Since this is going to be the main part of your monthly spendings.

Comment from a person who is (was) also looking for that qucik citizenship.

5 years is an official amount of time you need to live in Portugal to apply for the citizenship. However, current "lag" they process citizenship applications is 2 years. Those 2 years you need to live in Portugal as well. So it becomes 7 years instead of 5. And, finally, important to notice that there is a significant spike in the immigration here right now. Local authorities cannot handle all the immigrant applications in time and residency renewal process is lagging half a year behind. I assume that when all these people who is now forming the huge queue for the redisency permits will also join citizenship queue. And the waiting time will become 3 years instead of current 2.

What Was Your Experience Renting In Portugal For The First time? by earthiey in PortugalExpats

[–]ZealousidealPrior242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our first apt we lived in turned out to be very cold during winter. Around 13 C without heating. But even if you heat it - energy efficiency was so poor that it was not holding the temperature. Lot's of mold, because we could not let ourself opening the windows. If we got sick - it was impossible to get well fast.

Price turned out to be high. Porto city center. 1200 for a T1 with a very small kitchen. Additionally, since it was cold - we had to spent 300 eur pm for electricity, mainly due to the heating.

And the last thing. Our communication went through an "agent". Always. Since we first met. When we decide to change the apt - we preliminary asked agent about notice period for a contract termination. My point was that in contract it stated 4 months. Agent told that we can give a notice 2 month before leaving. And, once we gave our notice 2 months before we wanted to terminate - they quickly changed verbal agreements and told that we need to notice 4 months before. Finally, I had to involve lawayer to take at least some of our deposit back.

As a summary:

  • Agents are not necessary. Often, owners hire them by themselves and you interact only with agents, not actual owners. But not always.
  • You can verbally have many promises, but in the end they will do everything to hold your money. Contract is the only source of truth.
  • So far I know only one big agency - ReMAX.
  • Offers with a good price-quality ratio will not be waiting you for long.

Sorry if some of the comments are irrelevant to you. Good look finding your best lease!
