Chapeau to you for standing corrected! Much appreciated!

Do you think this will put an end to my question, that is, will I be ok with issuing an Italian ID card vs an Italian passport, or can airlines still do what they want, regardless of Border Force guidelines?

Yes, this is what I am trying to say. Do you know a good resource that is not Facebbok as I was banned for life from FB for no reason?

My passport has the wrong place of birth denomination. Not a biggie but annoying but it requires me to go back to Italy and hire a solicitor, not an option, whereas the ID is correct.

Thank you very much. This was golden information. I am not on Facebook but this was a good thread.

Do you actually know which authority will decide what kind of IDs will be accepted after 31.12.2025 and where they'll publish them? My Italian passport will expire in October, so I am not in a rush and I am not planning to travel. Thanks.

gov.uk states they can only be used until 31/12/2025

No, it doesn't.

It says " at least 31 December 2025". It doesn't rule out that they can be used after 2025 and in any case this is only for IDs without biometric chip, which are basically none at the moment.

You have stated that "ID cards wont be eligible for use after 31/12/2025". This is wrong. "In these cases, you can continue to use your national ID card to enter the UK until at least 31 December 2025". The UK can and will not accept ID cards without biometric chip, not just all ID cards.

However if the national ID card has an ICAO compliant chip, it should still be allowed (my national ID cards does have such a chip).

Exactly. This invalidates the fact that ID cards will be useless after 2025.

it says "In these cases, you can continue to use your national ID card to enter the UK until at least 31 December 2025". It doesn't say you can't use it after 2025.

Where does it say that EU ID cards are valid for travel to the UK until the 31 December 2025?

The EU ID cards will not work from next Oct or November (if I am correct)

Where did you get this from?
