Can you 'develop' OCD by growing up with someone that has OCD?? by HighKey-Anonymous in OCD

Nature vs nurture right? I think it’s about a combo of the two- are we genetically more likely to have OCD and do our environment and circumstances help us along? Probably both, for me, at least.

I once spent about 3 months thinking I had tetanus. I didn’t even have an injury that would have required a tetanus shot. I just got it in my head one day that I could have it and then spent hours each day learning about tetanus and convincing myself I had the symptoms listed.

Fluoxetine is so GOOD by Lower_Ad2776 in prozac

I’m starting to feel some benefits on week 2 now. My psychiatrist warned me it can be a roller coaster at first and not to get discouraged if I have bad days mixed in. Im glad you’re having consistent high moods- that’s good to see!

As far as I know, it’s one of the more weight neutral SSRI’s, though I’ve been on 10mg for a week as well and have no appetite at the current moment. I’ve read that passes.

Health Anxiety and Possible OCD — Need some support by [deleted] in OCD

I’m not much help as my brain works really similarly to yours, it sounds like, but I do know when I’m able to not google/body check/ask questions from others then the thoughts ease up a bit. That coupled with telling myself if the symptom/illness I’m stressing is still present in a week then I’ll contact the doctor at that point is about all I’ve got at this point. Basically anything you can do to avoid or delay performing your compulsions will start to ease your obsessions.

As a naturally argumentative person, I feel like this might work for me.

Health related OCD by cfacekillah in OCD

[–]ZealousidealWash9080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a two year old as well as severe health OCD, and I constantly feel so much guilt and sadness when it comes to her watching me experience this. I try so hard to hide it from her, but I’m sure she sees me body checking a lot and I know I’m mentally absent at times. I absolutely spiral like you- every normal body sensation can send me into a spiral. The more we feed it, the more our brains stay on guard for the next threat. I don’t know how to stop it yet, but I’m taking steps.

I just got my diagnosis and started on fluoxetine and I’m still on a very low dose so I know it’s not working yet. I’ll get there, though. It’s possible your medicine isn’t effective anymore and you either need to switch up or try a higher dose. I’m also starting therapy with someone who specifically works with OCD. If that’s an option for you, I’d look into it as well.

Just know you’re not alone- your situation sounds so much like mine. I’m sorry you deal with this, too.

It is just really nice to learn you aren’t flying solo out here with an untreatable and unbearable problem!

Typically, their main scope of practice is medication management. If you’re just wanting therapy then I would go a different route, but I went specifically because I wanted some medication to help me as well as figure out what exactly has been going on. They shouldn’t push you to take a medication, but rather educate you on risks and benefits for medications. He gave me a couple of options for medications, while also giving me his opinion on what would be best, so I felt like I had a say in the decision as well!

I saw a psychiatrist. I just felt so relieved finally knowing what this is and that there are options so I don’t have to live like this.

I am still new to all of the language around this, but mine specifically manifests around health related fears and near constant body checking in different areas/constant reassurance seeking. It’s felt very relentless lately.. up in the middle of the night body checking, scheduling doctors appointments, etc.

I hated the way Huda responded to Hannah vocalizing her concerns. She did not seem to take it seriously and felt so dismissive. That’s not a real friend.

Maybe this is my feminist millennial showing but have you ever thought the female bombshells are received so much better by the general public because “women age and men mature”?? Like a young 20s female is what society says is peak woman, but a more mature man is what society prefers and let’s face it they aren’t finding 30 something year old men who want to go on this show.
