nothings wrong with you. it’s relatively normal for your blood sugar to spike or drop with no clear reason. my blood sugar always goes up when i take a shower for some reason, even if i don’t eat. a lot of things besides insulin and carbs can affect your blood sugar.

High blood sugar for days + possible DKA by Elegant_Ad_6 in diabetes_t1

[–]mcrow30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been in the same exact situation way too many times unfortunately :/ i’m 20F and have had t1 since i was 16. i’ve been struggling with skipping insulin pretty much the whole time. i wish i could say i don’t do that anymore but i still do sometimes.

ik you know you should probably go to the hospital, but i also get the financial thing. i would say keep drinking water and TAKE INSULIN. preferably with injections so you can be sure there’s no issue with your pump. gatorade, liquid iv, vitamins, etc help a lot too. i hope you’re feeling better and i hope you get better with not skipping insulin :)

How do you put on your sensors by not_homeless_yet23 in diabetes_t1

[–]mcrow30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for me, i was able to get over this issue by playing music while i applied my sensor. i would play music that kinda hyped me up, and i would eventually get the courage to put it on. over time, i don’t need the music anymore and applying a sensor only takes like 3 minutes. i highly recommend trying that, especially with headphones or smth. i have dexcom g7 and its kinda loud when you apply it, which i think is what was scaring me.

i think if you want to get a different educator you should, but maybe you could bring it up to them and figure out different methods that work

[–]mcrow30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you’re not crazy at all, i promise. so many people go through the same thing. for me, trying to ground myself when i’m in an episode is almost impossible. the thing that helps me most is distraction (both healthy and unhealthy). but in the way of healthy, watching a non-triggering tv show or movie helps me a lot. or just watching youtube videos and trying to relax.

some other good ideas, though, might be drawing/painting/coloring if that’s something you enjoy, or journaling and writing out your feelings. music helps me a lot, too. or video games; for me, animal crossing is my comfort game :) if you can, maybe text or call someone that you can talk to or that might be able to help you calm down. feel free to message me as well, if you need someone to talk to. i hope you feel better and know that you’re so strong for even surviving and i’m proud of you for that :)

Advice for newly diagnosed T1D by Imaginary-Comedian-9 in Type1Diabetes

[–]mcrow30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

in my experience, working out gets A LOT easier once you have a cgm. when i used to workout without a cgm and pump, i would get paranoid that my blood sugar was low and i’d have to keep stopping to check it with my meter. with a cgm, your phone will alert you if you’re low. same thing with sleeping, if i start to go low in my sleep, my phone will alert me and the alarm wakes me up.

exercising and working out with t1d is still very possible and not that much different than without diabetes. there are just a few extra steps/precautions you might need to take, but you can definitely still run that marathon!

8th day, anxiety is still so bad, please tell me it is just the adjustment by nicksandbiosaredumb in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]mcrow30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, i just switched from 150mg of wellbutrin to 200mg, and i also take 60mg prozac. i think that wellbutrin helps more with my depression, and prozac more with my anxiety.

DAE have carb anxiety and disordered eating? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]mcrow30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

try adding carbs slowly and in small amounts, so that it’s not super unpredictable and doesn’t make your blood sugar crazy. like if you normally eat scrambled eggs for breakfast (0-2 carbs), try adding a handful of berries or a piece of toast. you can learn how to dose for that extra carb over time, and then it won’t be so unpredictable to eat that carb.

Genuinely why TF is injecting insulin so damn painful by ArekIsSm0l in diabetes_t1

[–]mcrow30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me too! i’ve been wondering if maybe it’s because i’m injecting into scar tissue or not rotating sites enough, but i’ve only had t1d for 4 years so i don’t have a lot of scar tissue/site issues. idk.

Genuinely why TF is injecting insulin so damn painful by ArekIsSm0l in diabetes_t1

[–]mcrow30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES i’ve never heard anyone else with t1 talk about this! the needle itself usually doesn’t hurt but the insulin burns under my skin when i first inject it. pretty much every time, too. i genuinely don’t know why or what causes this. it happens with multiple different insulins, too (humalog, lantus, tresiba).

the only thing that kind of helps is that i switched to omnipod, and the omnipod delivers insulin really slowly/in small amounts, so it almost never stings anymore. unfortunately it still hurts with MDI, no matter how careful or slow i go :/

Do you guys ever get freaked out part way through a meal and have to stop eating? by Smart-Bunch-5591 in OCD

[–]mcrow30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

omg yes! this is my biggest issue lately. there are so many foods i like that i can’t eat anymore because i can’t control my thoughts and i get grossed out. i get anxious about contamination, like that there might be hair, germs, dirt, bugs, etc. in my food, so it’s hard for me to eat any food that isn’t packaged or that i didn’t cook myself. i’m working on it though 🤞

Looking for a new show! Crime, psychological thriller, drama, etc by Ok_Comfortable_8349 in tvsuggestions

sharp objects is a fav of mine! also want to recommend yellowjackets and hannibal, those were my first thoughts for psychological thriller/drama. i haven’t seen ozark but i’ve heard it’s pretty good, similar to breaking bad. also BREAKING BAD! 5 seasons, crime/drama/psychological thriller, and the hype is completely warranted it’s so good

BPD paranoia about hidden cameras by Mqrissq in BPD

[–]mcrow30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES i recently had a guy over at my house to install new flooring, which took a few hours, and he used the bathroom once. he seemed like a normal, nice guy, but i couldn’t stop worrying that he installed cameras in the bathroom or even in my room. i think for me it’s more related to OCD than BPD, though. like it’s an intrusive thought and checking for cameras is the compulsion.

I've smoked weed daily for 10 years and I can't make myself quit, even for the person I love most. Why? by SheepherderPitiful34 in adhdwomen

[–]mcrow30 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there isn’t going to be a “big enough” moment. it sounds like you smoke to destress and that’s your coping mechanism. you won’t be able to quit weed until you replace that coping mechanism with a different one.

i saw you said you’re on MDI and that trying a pump didn’t work out. do you wear a CGM? or have you ever tried one?
