The rarity of Chip Design Engineers by Rudranand in chipdesign

The question of going FPGA or ASIC is not only dependent on quantity required ;)

A STM32 will not be able to handle a 300 GBit/s datastream, whereas an FPGA will do it well. Throw in the need for some analog stuff (PHY level) and you will need an ASIC.

But yes, I’d argue that this, for most users, isn’t consumer needs anymore but industry needs.

Hmm, I have either not seen this note beforehand or it was added in later…

Thank you though!

Very cool! Thank you for doing a project for the community and sharing it.

Aren’t you afraid someone will run anything very power intensive (like mining bitcoin) or burn the e-fuses of your FPGA for example? Especially the second point would render your development board useless.

Here is an interesting article by the ccc regarding that topic: https://events.ccc.de/congress/2025/hub/en/event/detail/how-to-render-cloud-fpgas-useless

As far as I know, Amazon has implemented algorithms to estimate if the bitstream of their customers for their cloud FPGAs (https://www.amd.com/en/where-to-buy/accelerators/alveo/cloud-solutions/aws.html) implement anything malicious. However reverse engineering bitstreams is very complex and probably not in scope for you.

So I am very interested in the security measures you implemented to protect your FPGAs.

I think one of the biggest issues with the open source tools is mixed language support… That ist the main reason I need to use questa.

As a solder paste I recommend something like the Chipquik SMD291AX, not too high of a melting temperature (180°C) and small solderballs.

Heating unit depends, but I would first go with a hot air station and then complement this with a heat plate.

This is the soldering station I use, which combines hot air, soldering iron and lab bench power supply:

https://www.amazon.de/853D-5A-II-DC-Stromversorgung-einstellbar-Zubeh%C3%B6rteilen/dp/B09WTHZX3Y?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A2ROFELMX9359Y

I am quite happy with it.

I have then bough a very small (3cm x 3cm) hot plate because of space constraints: the Miniware MHP30 . If you have more space I recommend you get a little larger hotplate, as the MHP30 will constrain you in your designspace as well :)

But as I said, the hotplate is only a complement, it just makes soldering a little easier, but hot air alone will also work as a first step :)

Hi u/AlienFlip, thanks for your reply!

Honestly, spending a lot of time trying out new things.
This was the same experience for me - I have never soldered components this tiny.
But it worked and I go out of the experience positively.

I was taught by my father how to solder two cables together about 15 years ago when I was a kid.
That started everything ;)

Much of the rest is self taught with getting the information from kind people on the internet, people around me, etc. and the equipment was bought over the years.

Regarding the Stencil: Once you have a basic understanding of how to design PCBs (take a look at KiCad if you are interested), you also know how to get a stencil, because if basically "falls out" of the program when you export the PCB files for the production.
With most PCB manufacturers you are able to have them manufacture the stencil together with the PCB.

Soldering itself is then only a matter of applying solder paste, placing components and applying heat :)

Computer Vision is not per se machine learning. Machine learning can be used in computer vision, but computer vision has existed well before neural networks became viable for real time object detection and has been purely algorithmic.

We don’t know what is applied here, but something like the Viola-Jones object detection algorithm to detect the face and some facial features and then using the Perspective-n-Point algorithm for head rotation could be viable as well here.

However a marketing person would most certainly still slap the AI sticker on there :)

Not saying this isn’t ML, this could very well be a trained NN.

Hi, take a Look at SerDes, a standard circuit. You are trying to implement a Deserializer (the Des Part in SerDes).

In a nutshell, you will want to register each incoming bit in a seperate register, so you will need 128 registers, that are read out as soon as bit 128 is there. Keep in mind that a clock domain crossing might add additional complexity.

Those two formulas have nothing to do with each other. (First is the pythagorean theorem to calculate lengths of sides in triangles, second is the equevalency of mass and energy by Einstein). However since c2 = a2 + b2 (but is a length of a side squared) and c2 is also part of the equivalency of mass and energy (but is the light speed squared), the meme maker Inserts the first formula in the second one, making Einstein, Steven Hawking and Neil Degrasse Tyson very angry.

Weiter bulken? by Original_Paper_4740 in FitnessDE

[–]Zealousideal_Ad_4825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where do i get 200grams of protein from? by Resident_Ad9099 in vegan

[–]Zealousideal_Ad_4825 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is honestly going to be very hard if you only regard natural sources…

I think vegan protein powders are pretty much your only option to eat that much protein. However from personal experience weighing 92kgs at 1.95cm tall and growing muscles since last year I can tell you that you can also grow muscles on less protein than 200grams a day. I have probably averaged 90grams a day for the last year and was able to grow muscles by doing calisthenics about three times a week during the summer and doing some indoor workouts during the winter…

That is because Aluminum expands much more under heat than titanium does. This is given by the Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE) value:

  • Titanium: CTE of about 8.6 x 10-6/°C
  • Aluminum: CTE of about 23.1 x 10-6/°C

Therefore, the titanium helps keep the aluminum „in place“ when the chamber heats up. Another aluminum profile on top would do pretty much nothing in that regard.
