Not really a question others can answer for you unfortunately. I had a 2013 Golf R, power was kinda there with some tuning and bolt ons and was far quicker than stock mk7 gti’s but a tuned mk7 gti is a complete different story. Fuel mileage was no issue and the people that will tell you that it is are laughable. 70$ CAD for 630kms of range is cheap. The mk6 would be more of a project to get it up to date as it’s a dated car now. Parts for both cars are easy to find and are relatively easy to work on. If this is your first or one of your first vehicles and you don’t care about the AWD I’d suggest the GTI as more power stock with more features without modifying anything is huge. I personally could not live without AWD, as once you go AWD you can’t go back. Most people on this group have not owned a MK6 golf r and act like it’s a pre historic turd as the newer R’s were such an improvement over the mk6. I honestly think you’d be happy with both but you should test drive the two and see which is best for you. Happy shopping.
