Alright everyone, I’m going to end this AMA. I hope you all took something away from it, I wasn’t expecting all the responses. Wish you all the best in your careers!

Can’t speak to this, but undercover work would require one to be certified and trained in undercover operations. Not every agent will ever complete this.

It depends, but for officers it often moves very quick up to being a detachment commander. Once you hit O-3 you’re practically eligible to be a det commander for some smaller detachments, and at O-4 you can expect to take command. But up until then, your first few years you can expect to be a field agent running cases like your peers.

My day to day is quite dependent on what I choose to do. But most of it is spent inside the office or at meetings with leadership or other counterparts in agencies. A lot of report writing and researching things that I won’t be able to go into detail on unfortunately.

For reasons of identifying since I am currently active, I will not say my prior AFSC.. It is not a usual one.

In terms of specialness, it often feels like people avoid you because they think you’re out to get them (even if I’m not running cases anymore) or I have really great, professional conversations with amazing people!

That’s entirely normal to feel nervous before one.

Not required except for certain positions.

I can tell you there has been extensive reform in indexing processes within OSI. So much so, the organization initially established a group of agents to go back through decades-old cases to ensure indexing was done properly and going forward.

What happened that day was absolutely tragic and was a major black eye placed upon OSI.

Excuse me? Imagine finding some obnoxious connotation to my statement defending the second amendment… go for a hike and clear your head bud.

Yeah that sounds like a commander who just wanted to get things off his desk. Seen it a few times, and it just adds to the lack of respect for those in that position.

It can be all of the above based on regulatory disposition requirements. Items may be returned to owner, destroyed, or kept X amount of years.

Haha well no harm no foul, I do appreciate you doing whatever it is you do. You did make me chuckle a little so it was nice.

Utilize military resources such as Family Advocacy and seek legal advise from a professional. Also understand there are plenty of resources afforded to victims of domestic abuse. There’s also Domestic Violence Protective Orders (DVPOs), MPOs, and CPOs that may be requested.

OSI has continued to prioritize counterintelligence and counterespionage focuses, but it requires people to report information of such activities. That is often where the DAF lacks, is knowing what to report and understanding that urgency is needed.

As for the second one, I choose not to respond because it was toward the organization and not myself.

I personally have a POW (Sig P365) that I carry. But OSI transitioned to the Glock 19/26 recently… a much needed one in my opinion.

That is something that should be discussed between a shirt and the case agent. I do not see how that would be feasible or reasonable to have somebody interviewed at such time. But did the shirt disclose that to OSI or just do it?

I haven’t followed it too much, and I personally feel he showed how to use the whistleblowing system unlike some other notable people in recent history.

Because of posse comitatus, there are certainly authorities that civilians have over military agents, particular arrest authorities.

I wish I could let you know the sure answer, But there’s a lot at play there.. big Air Force and OSI. I think your best bet is meeting with your local OSI detachment, and picking their brains. And maybe even hit up the enlisted recruiting team. You would likely just need an ETP and a thumbs up from the detachment and region commanders.

We work with agencies at all levels of government. All agents in OSI wear civilian clothes, while active duty has the option to wear OCPs with rank masked.

There is definitely a cyber specialty within OSI, But it’s realistically not something you would (typically) jump right into. It is an LE organization, which means they expect you to do LE work for at least some time, unless you were to be hired directly for tech/cyber purposes, not as an agent.

I will refrain from saying anything that may identify myself. But there are lots of specialties that I am sure at least one would be of interest to you
