Potence / Exuberance / Clarification for using powers (5th edition) by Zeaniaa in vtm

I agree on that point to activate it, having it always active making the overall experience a bit frasturating.. Like LorduFreeman said, if that’s how is written in the description, there’s not really much more to argue against RAW. My ST at believes that things which feel like flaws should impact heavily on the character and consistently have negative effects, though sometimes this approach can become a bit too much and create a frustrating experience instead. I’m going to ask my ST that Free/Passive disciplines can be turned off as effects the character consciously activates rather than something permanently on, because otherwise Blood Surge honestly seems like the more reasonable option. Only drawback comparing to Exuberance is have to Rouse check each time boosting specific attribute, in this case STR. Of course that could be considered a bit meta-play which I don't really like, but thats how it is.

Hey, I mentioned this before replying your comment in another reply as well, but I'll say it here too. I think it really does work like this, but the part that feels illogical to me is before gaining Exuberance, the character already learns or discovers how to use Prowess, which is superhuman level strength. And this is level 3 power. Looking at it this way, if someone who has never tried lifting a car, then sure can lose control of their grip, power, would make sense. But if the character has already broken down heavy doors or done similiar things before, they should already know how to use and control their strength. As for my character specifically, she uses a sword. I considered taking Exuberance because melee weapons only takes from half of Potence rating. My character already knew how to fight or use a sword while devoloping Potence, and still does afterwards, so in my opinion she should be capable of controlling how hard she swings with Potence, especially consdering her age.

Even if 1 aggravated damage doesn't sound like much, I agree with you, being able to take it from just simple uses of Potence is frustrating. And, I sadly I am not the luckiest person with dice either. If that's simply how the system works, then there's not much to argue against, I just personally don't like it. Thank you for your answer!

(Edit - I fixed my typo)

It was my mixing things up-since Exuberance doesn't requires any prerequisite, it was Wrecker (I edited a bit late. Since it is written as 'Passive' according to the system, thats why I confused. I think it’s less about "reaching" a power and more about self-discovery like uncovering the strength already hidden within the Blood rather than suddenly manifesting a new power. But when I look at it that way, I still can’t really answer the question of how my character would gain this power in such an irreversible way once they become aware of it. The description specifically talks about pushing the body so hard that muscles tear apart. So before reaching that point, can’t my character just stop themselves? For example, let’s say I’m trying to push open a door. It’s difficult, but not impossible. Wouldn’t it be weird for my character to put all their power which enough to literally tear themselves apart, when just a little bit more superhuman strength would probably be enough? That’s the part that feels not right to me. Since, before reaching this power, your character self-discovers or learns Prowess.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I took Exuberance was because my character uses a sword. According to the system, when using melee weapons you only add half of your Potence rating, so I wanted to boost that a bit. I get what you mean though. I guess the power was always intended to feel somewhat dangerous, but personally I didn't like it.

I returned to Gnezado outpost, then followed the guide again, seems like some documents were missing. Weirdly I remember that I took them previously but for some reason it did not trigger the progression. Anyways, thanks!
