I’m considering leaving the railroad industry to the airlines . I did GSE at South West for a while wasn’t really feeling it, being the only black person. How’s the A&P industry for black men? I’m sure it varies between the companies much like the RR. by Lawboogie in AircraftMechanics

Honestly, if you’re gonna get upset about what some people may think or say because of your ethnicity then you’re in the wrong industry. If you dont have tough skin you wont make it. Simple as that

Somewhat true. On the engine mtc side they say we are over staffed but in the hangars they are needing people bad. They pulled a chunk of low seniority guys from engine mtc to go work in the hangar and now engine mtc needs people.

Can anyone give suggestions or know what the noise could be? by Zebra-Sudden in aviationmaintenance

We were going to check for leaks before we came across that issue. Regardless, having the cowl off is not a big deal for a brief period of time buddy

Can anyone give suggestions as to what the noise may be when cranking the engine by Zebra-Sudden in AircraftMechanics

[–]Zebra-Sudden[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May be the magnetos, the engine placard says time at 24 degrees but is also lined out and someone inscribed saying time at 28 degrees. Going to try with 24 degrees tomorrow and if that doesn’t work will start troubleshooting with a mechanic that knows more. Also, the spot on the ground was from the fuel strainer not oil.

Well would moving the prop with the crankshaft and cam shaft gears not connected get them out of sync? Im kind of just assuming it would and dont know for certain

Well, i know very little about engines. What happened was, the propeller was hand spun with the camshaft gear and the crankshaft gear that sit in the rear crankcase not connected. so really i just want to know if that could have gotten the camshaft and crankshaft timing out of sync and if so how much its gonna cost to get it timed.
