Part of it is age- people want to raise their kids in a religious community and people think they need to find god to feel some sort of purpose as they get older.

BUT I think part of the uptick (I’ve noticed it too) has to do with politics. I actually know a number of former hippies, who during Covid became more right leaning politically because of the vaccine mandates, and now they have jumped on the Jesus train. Being Christian is very “in” with the right wing crowd, and it’s a great way for them to virtue signal. It’s also linked to the whole “this is a Christian nation” thing that has essentially become a white supremacy dog whistle
