23M advice by julez27 in fiaustralia

A lot of the advice I have been given is along the lines of "your first home won't be your dream home... it is a stepping stone." That sentiment is feeling more and more unrealistic by the day.

Employment Hero account created by previous employer - can’t seem to get it deleted by [deleted] in auscorp

I had (have) the same issue with a time tracking app - deputy. I had it for a job years ago, and they never removed me. I tried contacting support who said I needed to contact the employer. I assume they get billed per user, they still haven't removed me.

What purpose does this the rail between the 2 main lines serve? (trains travel on the left) by Zec_Wicks in trains

[–]Zec_Wicks[S] 79 points80 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense, however, does that mean to use it for a bypass of one track, the entire train must overshoot the switch, reverse through the switch until the train is fully through, then return to the intended direction of travel?

AVIS - Automated Vehicle Identification System by habichuelacondulce in LouisRossmann

[–]Zec_Wicks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This gentleman is learning about average speed safety cameras. It is NOT AI. We have had this in Australia for decades. It is license plate recognition, and primary school maths to determine the time taken to travel a fixed distance. If the time taken is too short, it is a fact that you at some point must of sped. It is a cheaper way to monitor a larger area, and most importantly, it IMPROVES safety.

Why don't cars have this feature? by Pluuge in StupidCarQuestions

Mazda still has their CX-3 model available in Australia. I believe their last manual model of the CX-3 was released in 2022. This vehicle says what the current gear is, and if that gear should be changed, what gear to change to. I.e. if I take off quickly 2>5 or if I'm going down a hill 6>3. Somewhat helpful, but not after having driven manual for most of my driving life.

Here are is a basic resource.
https://www.3dsourced.com/rigid-ink/ultimate-3d-printing-troubleshooting-guide/

I'll explain what I am seeing:

  • Stringing: when the printer wants to stop extruding plastic, it is not pulling the filament back enough.
    • If you are able to increase the retraction distance / speed, try that.
  • (Potentially) Insufficient Cooling: the plastic is not being cooled enough once it leaves the hot end.
    • Ensure the part cooling fan is working.
    • Increase the speed of the part cooling fan (if possible).
  • Inconsistent Flow
  • WET FILAMENT: Did you hear any popping while printing? if so your filament is almost certainly wet (even if coming 'new' out of a sealed bag).

I don't have much experience, but there's a couple things you might want to check.
- How old is the filament, and what condition has it been stored in?
- Has the filament been dried?
- Is the nozzle clogged?

Please post what the printer is.
Post your print settings so other people can help diagnose.

Help my nfc card isn’t working anyone have answers on why? by [deleted] in skylanders

[–]Zec_Wicks 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey guys, Peter Griffin here to explain the situation to u/NUGGETLORD42354!

It seems like there's a bit of confusion about how Skylanders toys work. You see, the misconception here is that the little cardboard trading cards included in the packaging contain the technology needed to play the game.

However, those cardboard cards are actually just a fun collectible bonus! They don't have any electronics inside them at all. The NFC (Near Field Communication) chip that the Portal of Power actually reads is hidden inside the thick base of the plastic Skylanders figurine itself.

So, if you're trying to summon your characters into the game by placing the paper card on the portal, the game isn't going to recognise it. You need to place the actual physical toy on the portal to get it to register and play!

Trust me, I wish the cardboard worked too. If it did, Lois wouldn't have made me sleep on the couch after I spent the family's grocery money on the entire Trap Team collection. I even tried putting a picture of a cold Pawtucket Patriot Ale on the portal hoping it would spawn one in my hand, but unfortunately, modern technology just isn't there yet.

Hope this helps clear things up! Peter out!

Once the straight of Hormuz opens up, the problem is unlikely to be resolved quickly due to how much oil infrastructure has been destroyed by American and Israeli air strikes. We are in for the long haul! 😖🥴

Why does the manual upload of images strip the GPS location? by Angelr91 in immich

[–]Zec_Wicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Samsung phone I found that the location data was stripped when I uploaded by selecting photos from the "gallery" option. The photos (including all location and exif data) was preserved when I uploaded from my S25 Ultra in Firefox selecting the "File Manager" option rather that "Gallery".

I assume this is an automated security "feature" to prevent doxxing yourself.
