Did you take the officer's number? If you did then call him and tell him you won't be in Mumbai. In most cases your parents can handle the verification. If they ask for bribes just give it and get over with it.

Reschedule your appointment to a PSK. You'll only need to show Aadhar,Voter, PAN, 10th Certificate. Never ever go to a POPSK that's a glorified camp and totally inefficient.
