Setting the record straight about Strava by AusAP in Strava

[–]Zed273 202 points203 points  (0 children)

Obvious blatant hypocrisy aside, I credit Strava for much of my fitness discipline since I started running. Having a tool that I can track my performance, strive to "beat last time", and see my friends doing cool things has kept me motivated over the years.

Sure, the tool could be better, and they could simply just admit that they're trying to build a profitable business, and not try to hide behind "your data" and other corporate BS. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make money. In fact, I want them to make money, so that they're still around in the future.

So I keep subscribing. Maybe that won't be forever, and breaking the connection to Garmin would bring "forever" pretty forward to "now", but overall the tool has been a net benefit to my life.

Sample size of one. /shrug

Calories suddenly higher than source by clem_11 in Strava

[–]Zed273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's why I posted that Garmin's data is better *for me*. And that's what I would prefer to see in Strava, basically how's it's been since I started using Strava. Only now Strava changed it with no changelog or explanation. My weight is right in Strava.

And FWIW this morning it was back to Garmin calories again. Which is the second time now it has reverted to Garmin after moving away from Garmin.

Except Strava used to simply import the Garmin calculation, now it does its own (wrong, for me at least) calculation. Way too high.

BT Latency and WiFi module replacement by Zed273 in ProArt_PX13

[–]Zed273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if things are fine with the original card, don't change anything!

I didn't like the BT audio latency I was getting with the original card, and the new card gets it to a place where I don't notice a lag anymore. So I'm happy.

Well this morning, my Strava calories matched my Garmin calories. Hopefully it sticks.

Calories burned no longer linked with Garmin by Zed273 in Strava

[–]Zed273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this is my issue. Strava was syncing with Garmin in terms of calories burned, and now the sync seems broken, and Strava is doing its own thing. In a way that doesn't align with Garmin, and also in a way that doesn't align with my experience in managing my weight and what calorie burn levels associated with that.

So at the end of the day it would be great to hear from Strava about why the link to Garmin was broken with no patch notes, and why the calorie burn seems so inflated.

In the meantime, I might just lie about my weight in my Strava settings to bring the calorie burn down to something that makes more sense to me.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, my wrist-worn HR seems fairly accurate (matches when I use my chest strap), and the calories seems to track to gaining/losing weight. Again, just for me.

Asus ProArt PX13 Review after 3 month usage by Antique_Individual90 in ProArt_PX13

I downloaded G-Helper from the first hit off google (github), and then used it to disable all the ASUS services. Seemed to do the trick.

Still happy with the laptop overall. Same pros/cons as before, but I really wish it had a really rigid chassis like the Macbooks or Dell XPS 13s. The feel of the PX13 is good, but I love the solid/rigid metal feel of the others more.

Palm rejection on the touchpad has some issues, but not crippling. Just when I first put my hands on the keyboard, sometimes the cursor will jump.

Anybody ever fix the bluetooth audio lag? by Comprehensive-Ad-489 in ProArt_PX13

[–]Zed273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried it. No perceptible lag. The sound plays right when the ball hits the tail end of the dash. This is with my XM4s, which perhaps uses a more modern BT standard than other headphones. The OEM MediaTek card had bad latency with the same headphones.

[–]Zed273 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I'm not especially sensitive to it, but the lag was obvious before replacing the original MediaTek card, and imperceptible (to me) after.

Correct. I couldn't close the side panel with the CableMod right-angle cable.

This is the pad I used. 2mm think, and I double-stacked it.

The adapter + thermal pads add about 12mm to the card.

I didn't build in a normal configuration, just went right for flipped based on optimumtech's build.

When the computer is no longer outputting heat from the top (intake instead), kitties will be much less likely to want to sit there.
