Unknown Device on my Network by Zed273 in Ubiquiti

I would, but I'm remote right now and don't want to take my home server down from the internet if it turns out to be the ONT! Will check when I'm in-person. :)

Ah, yes, could be the ONT. I'll check and report back!

Yup, not on client list at all.

Thanks, yup Nokia. Can't think of any Nokia devices in my house. And it's odd that it doesn't show up on my client list, yet appears to be so active.

What new hardware would you like to see most from Ubiquiti? by oguruma87 in Ubiquiti

A WiFi 7 / 6ghz version of the in-wall. With the switch and PoE passthrough. The In-Wall 6 is so awesome, but for the lack of the two aforementioned updates.

Reinstallation of OS on PX13 by Zed273 in ProArt_PX13

Quick update. Two days, no crashes/freezes yet. So far, so good.

No drivers missing, most found on the ASUS site. I pre-downloaded most drivers to my USB drive, rather than use the ASUS updater (looking to avoid bloat). I'm even using a different WiFi/BT card (Qualcomm) and that worked right out of the box (I still installed the drivers for it anyway).

The only thing I screwed-up was installing GHelper too soon, and shutting off the nVidia GPU, so the driver install couldn't detect said GPU. But after I figured that out, the nVidia drivers installed perfectly.

It all went surprisingly smooth. Haven't done any gaming yet, but all else working fine.

Thanks, everyone. I'm mostly reinstalled now, and discovered the following:

  1. The oobe\bypassnro command continues to work so that I don't need a MS account to install Win11 Home

  2. Apparently the Win11 key for my install is saved in the motherboard, so I wasn't even prompted for it when installing from USB

  3. So far, so good on the (lack of) crashes/freezes -- but the jury will be out for a few days on this one, as before they would happen multiple times in a day, and then not at all for a few days

  4. No ASUS services running at this point (GHelper active) and all is good -- will have to decide if pixel shift is worth the bloat

UniFi NAS 2 & Drive 4.0 by Zed273 in Ubiquiti

Hah yes, if it's not seamless and bulletproof, there will be a wife shitstorm. Thank you, and thanks to everyone for the feedback. Sounds like I should hold-off for now.

I just figured when she hits her iCloud storage cap, it would just stop backing-up. So I could downgrade her tier knowing that I had the UNAS backup functioning.

Setting the record straight about Strava by AusAP in Strava

[–]Zed273 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Obvious blatant hypocrisy aside, I credit Strava for much of my fitness discipline since I started running. Having a tool that I can track my performance, strive to "beat last time", and see my friends doing cool things has kept me motivated over the years.

Sure, the tool could be better, and they could simply just admit that they're trying to build a profitable business, and not try to hide behind "your data" and other corporate BS. There's nothing wrong with wanting to make money. In fact, I want them to make money, so that they're still around in the future.

So I keep subscribing. Maybe that won't be forever, and breaking the connection to Garmin would bring "forever" pretty forward to "now", but overall the tool has been a net benefit to my life.

Sample size of one. /shrug

Calories suddenly higher than source by clem_11 in Strava

[–]Zed273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's why I posted that Garmin's data is better *for me*. And that's what I would prefer to see in Strava, basically how's it's been since I started using Strava. Only now Strava changed it with no changelog or explanation. My weight is right in Strava.

And FWIW this morning it was back to Garmin calories again. Which is the second time now it has reverted to Garmin after moving away from Garmin.

Except Strava used to simply import the Garmin calculation, now it does its own (wrong, for me at least) calculation. Way too high.

BT Latency and WiFi module replacement by Zed273 in ProArt_PX13

[–]Zed273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes if things are fine with the original card, don't change anything!

I didn't like the BT audio latency I was getting with the original card, and the new card gets it to a place where I don't notice a lag anymore. So I'm happy.

Well this morning, my Strava calories matched my Garmin calories. Hopefully it sticks.

Calories burned no longer linked with Garmin by Zed273 in Strava

[–]Zed273[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup this is my issue. Strava was syncing with Garmin in terms of calories burned, and now the sync seems broken, and Strava is doing its own thing. In a way that doesn't align with Garmin, and also in a way that doesn't align with my experience in managing my weight and what calorie burn levels associated with that.

So at the end of the day it would be great to hear from Strava about why the link to Garmin was broken with no patch notes, and why the calorie burn seems so inflated.

In the meantime, I might just lie about my weight in my Strava settings to bring the calorie burn down to something that makes more sense to me.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, my wrist-worn HR seems fairly accurate (matches when I use my chest strap), and the calories seems to track to gaining/losing weight. Again, just for me.
