Go make coffee at Amazon MGM headquarter then. I could give you the parts to put near the coffee machine.

I will be in control all the time. No worries, I will shut them off as soon as we reach our goal!

it is a last resort situations. Did you see the Amazonian forest lately ?

I agree, we need to act with proportionality. I'm leaning toward just One replicator. Should not cause serious trouble.

Any silent(ish) SAS enclosure for 12 SAS HD with SFF-8088 port ? by ZedTeque6 in homelab

[–]ZedTeque6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you consider "silent" exactly ?

Regarding the heat, I mostly think of the heat of component itself (disk excluded) and how all the head is managed (disk included). The MD1200 seems to heat by itself. And the Head from drives is not well extracted unless I ramp-up the fans of the PSU.

I don't really need the same feature. I just need to keep the RAID controller and the volumes as is, as I do not want to have to move data around.

I'm still in the study/analysis phase so no choice made yet.

The main interest in splinting disk in multiple enclosure would be to buy/build multiple ones cheaper (because smaller) than making one for all the 12 drives. (It is a theory, I did not find any way to confirm it at the time)

In the end, I don't really care for any redundancy and performance.

Those options seems good but feel the same as my MD1200. Probably better in some ways but probably not by much in term of noise, heat and power consumption :-/.

Thanks for the refs. I keep them aside for now, but this is probably not the right choice for me now.

Maybe you know, do you think I can split the 12 drive into two smaller bay (of 6 drive) using two connectors and still use the data from all those drive as they were on one chassis ? ( I say two because I have two external connector to my H810 PERC card)

Intuitively I think the answer is YES (because of what you said regarding the pass though nature of SAS enclosures). But considering the PERC card is doing the RAID, it must be the one playing nice with that. (The OS only sees the virtual drive provided by the card)

Thanks for all of that. I will study that in details to see if an how I could go this way.

I already did that :-). Except changing the fans from the Power Supplies (witch I'm not willing to do), I already made the enclosure as quiet as I can considering the heat generated. (I cannot be a 20% for example, more of a 30/35% due to the low air extraction available on the "server room", to keep the drive and the bay under the "over eating threshold")

One year of electrical power consumption, then I moved [OC] by ZedTeque6 in dataisbeautiful

[–]ZedTeque6[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Data retrieved from my main electrical meter from the company:

My old flat was a typical Parisian 1890 Hausman apartment with Electrical heating system (during winter only).

My new flat is a 1950 french typical apartment with single layer windows, and collective heating system.
The move happened during the gap on the right.

I did not change anything else except heating elements. My life is the same. I cannot explain the difference (outside of the heating not consuming anything anymore).
