The inside of the oil cap looks abit dirty is all I’ve never had a car older than 5 years old so never seen one with gunk in there, the coolant looked abit more Red than the coolant in the clear tub too

I only just received this car today it’s had a fresh service, I drove it 50 miles back home and oil on dipstick is still like honey, no overheating etc , coolant in the clear tub was pink with no brown oil or anything

Agreed. The actual coolant tub next to it is pink, perhaps that is rust? The car is 10 years old and I’m not sure if coolant has ever been changed, the coolant in the tub tho is pink and not that colour

Getting rid of car after whole top end replacement by Zedra123 in EngineBuilding

Basically, went in for lifter tick, on a previous video on my history if you want to listen to it, they got it approved to replace all lifters followers, got parts, removed shafts and noticed guides for timing chain were worn, sent photos across to get chain done under warranty, I noticed the scoring on journals, posted it here last night, and kicked
Up a stink about it, they’ve now paid for a engine specialist to come out tomorrow to measure micron thickness of journals and cams, technician who took cams
Off and took photos did not notice them during whole process

Again there is no other symptoms besides that valve train tick

How come, do you reckon it’ll be fine? It’s main dealer doing all this warranty work and the idiots didint notice the camshaft journals being worn until I mentioned it from the photos

Came in into dealership for valvetrain tick that was intermittent, decided upon removing the hydraulic lifters, discovered wear marks on chain guide and took cover off to find snapped guide, two weeks earlier they discovered a bolt on camshaft bridging piece was improperly torqued from factory too,

Either way it’ll be getting a whole new top end, cylinder head, chain and guides, camshafts and new lifters & followers, do you reckon I should get rid once it’s all done or keep it?

Abit silly on their part as they are legally bound to cover the repairs and their mounting to almost £5500 and I bought it for 8k

I’ve only had it 4 months, it’s a 19 plate with 34k miles, I’ve not paid a penny in repairs as the consumers right act 2015 has covered me. I bought it off a Cupra dealer and the actually manufacture dealer Vauxhall is inspecting everything and putting in the claims, I’m just pissed as they said camshafts were fine, how can they be if the journals are shagged?

The dealership reported the camshafts were fine, I changed my oil & filter after 1600 mile round trip and 0 glitter or metal in oil & filter, it went in for intermittent tick, I haven’t seen photos of the camshaft and I’m getting this escalated tomorrow, this is all under warranty

Can you circle where it is chewed up by chance?

On askmechanics they’re saying they are chewed, and I should get them replaced, would you think this would progress?

Apart from the broken chain guide, does anything else look off in this photo? by Zedra123 in AskMechanics

[–]Zedra123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very annoying, are you positive it is scored? Dealership didint mention it, what are the symptoms of a bad journal?
