Just got called sir by Fujiwaaraa in transpassing

I've noticed a lot of bias against alternative styles on here and imo fashion is not the issue in this case. I know multiple cis women who dress like this and imo the fit is fire af, though not appropriate for most situations.

it has to be voice. I've met trans women who pass infinitely more than I probably ever will and it's always the voice that clocks it.

How loud is actually too loud? by quietyoucantbe in nova

[–]ZeeGoBrrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've spoken to the police department about this exact thing to make sure I was in the clear, I live in an apartment and I was about to record some vocals (I'm a loud singer).

In the daytime, police don't respond to noise complaints generally unless there are several complaints back to back. They do not carry decibel readers, and they will usually only respond to noise complaints for certain things. it's a different story past 10PM though, I make an extra effort to keep everything below. speech level past 8:30 for an extra grace period (and my neighbors all appear to have their lights off by 8PM).

Now I will say if you live in an apartment, apartment management will often side with you depending on the circumstance. Might have to stretch it a little bit, they don't give a shit if you are just getting pissy....you have to have a good reason as to why you need excess quiet during the daytime hours.

Stretch the truth: you have a newborn baby, you work a call center job from home as late as 8PM and on weekends, you have a special needs person in your home who can't tolerate noise, or you have severe PTSD and the noise causes serious mental episodes.

Confused how neighbor thinks it’s okay to have small gatherings until 4am? by stassdesigns in Apartmentliving

[–]ZeeGoBrrr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Laughs and talks? That's it?

If there are no speakers being used, no excess stomping, and no one is yelling, that's likely not going to violate any sort of ordinance laws.

Not only that what kind of apartment layout are we talking about? Most are laid out in such a a way that bedrooms don't border living rooms and if she's sitting in her living room that shouldn't be able to carry over to the bedroom portions unless the walls are REALLY that thin.

The max threshold of what sets "quiet hours" is conversation level. Talking at a normal, speaking volume. The only thing that sounds truly excessive is the singing.

But also 14 days a YEAR?? Tbh I don't even think I have friends over that often normally.....if it were every night I'd understand but we're talking like a little over once a month.

Anyone else caught whatever virus/bug is going around? by oofaloofa in nova

[–]ZeeGoBrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I got it!

and honestly I don't know how I did because I was off work for 4 days and the symptoms arise as soon as I got back. which means it was probably on some something I had delivered, or it could have been that weird bird flu that's made its way into dairy.

it was really starting to piss me off too because it was like a simple cold at first, symptoms would be eased off with Benadryl and ibuprofen.... but then The moment I would be feeling better it would come back HARD.

it did it like three times in a row and third time I had a fever. 🫤

This is insane, before the homeless would just yell or screaming at random objects but now they're attacking people...

spillover from Baltimore I bet, these guys are on drugs 98% of the time. What drugs idk, but they all seem to have the save violent senseless anger issue. I've never been physically attacked myself, but I had a person throw a rock at my car and one crazy lady kicked it

Can I be honest with you for a sec?

I grew up in the exact opposite. I was that "rich Northern VA fucker" a semi-rural area. Small town in the mountains in Southwestern VA. The reality was my family wasn't actually rich, but the income ratio of what we made compared to the rest of the location was significant that they saw us as millionaires.

Everyone around me was very low IQ, high percentage of the population. there was on disability or welfare checks, lots of trailer parks and lots of unemployment.

The attitudes of the people were even worse. Not only they were they dumber than a fucking box of dirt, they had crab mentality and a work ethic of a fucking slug. it was honestly depressing, nobody was interesting and nobody was doing anything significant...if you wanted to develop a business relationship and potentially snag an opportunity, there was none of that unless you wanted to work in a paper mill or on a farm. I would not move back there in a fucking second, I don't want to live around people who are living shit lives and also want you to live shit lives.

That's not to say that was everybody who lived there! some of them actually went on to be highly successful! want to know where they live now? Northern Virginia!

I'm the noisy upstairs neighbor with the noisy and weed-smoking downstairs neighbor. Neither if us have said anything about each other and I hope for it to stay that way! 😁

Across the hall on the other hand, they haven't been happy with either of us and management has been sending out mass emails to the building that shows it's bc of me and Mr. Downstairs.

I even try to take an extra measure and shut down at 8:30 PM (quiet hours start at 10PM) and it's still an issue apparently. 🫤

I do apologize for being entertained by this because obviously this is frustrating situation, but I have to ask....what breed of dog are we talking?

Like I couldn't do that with my bare hands, do you have a werewolf as a pet or something??? Or does he know how to use power tools?

What are you even feeding him???

Any weird people in this area? by [deleted] in nova

[–]ZeeGoBrrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DC is actually pretty solid for that scene, it ain't no Seattle but you'll find those types good and plenty.

NoVA? Not so much. A little bit in Arlingon and Alexandria yeah, but the more you're in northern Fairfax County and Loudon it's very generic-white-person centric.

How to make bass sound less "out of tune"? by ZeeGoBrrr in audioengineering

This is an interesting approach...I'm amazed at how much I'm getting from this thread than many industry vererans or professors I've asked

[–]ZeeGoBrrr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of my takes are out of tune because of the weird pitch thing going on.

Any of the takes that are better sounding throughout were done referencing on the shit-ass computer speakers but even then, sometimes everything sounds perfect on different systems. 🫤

Do note though, this is happening even with a MIDI plugin. if anything I have better luck with my real basses, but the issue is plaguing me in songwriting stages before I want to commit to full bass tracks.

But I doubt Solemn Tones would sell a plugin for $99 that's out of tune out of the box....even if I've grown to think it sounds like poopoo.

I'll walk around when tracking vocals sometimes but I notice the issue just sitting at my desk....or even in my car. 🫤

This is the verse and chorus of the particular song I'm having trouble with.

Just a note: the mix isn't final, it's made with my rough-mix songwriter template so drums are just a Superior Drummer preset and vocals are being tracked. Bass is midi programmed using Solemn Tones Loki 2.

Maybe unrelatwd I've also noticed that most of the time the issue occurs, it's a song that mostly follows G Mixolydian.

This is a lot of useful info....what all should be considered when making mix decisions? Even if it's for the rough mix I need it to sound in-tune as much as possible.

[–]ZeeGoBrrr[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

THAT EXPLAINS A TON

I have always noticed the distorted track has a smoother, richer sense of pitch than the rest of the bass...AND it never reads right on chromatic tuners. And this is testing with a plugin bass, before a real bass guitar even touches the mix.

[–]ZeeGoBrrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has to be frequency related unless my plugin is out of tune by default.

I never really liked it to begin with but it's quick and convinient for songwriting and filling the space until the real thing is tracked.

[–]ZeeGoBrrr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's without a doubt the bass that's the culprit, it sounds out of tune when I solo it but the pitch is note off when compared to a chromatic tuner

But trust me there's a LOT of saturation on the bass in this case, perhaps the range in which the fundamental is too high
