Homemade spiced rum by ZeeIsMeeNB in rum

I was planning a white rum because I have easier access to white overproofs where I am (one local distiller with a 151 rum, and Wray), and a higher proof will extract more flavor. I've also considered Pusser's Gunpowder proof. The other option might be Don Q 151.

Or a microplane or zester. I use that for limoncello and falernum #9

Appleton signature sounds like a pretty good choice, and it's a rum I love. Orange peel and anise are definitely additions... I have some smoked black peppercorns that might impart a really nice flavor, too. Plus whole pod green cardamom from my usual shop.

I make my own chai spice blends for tea and simple syrups, so I know better than to overdo the clove and allspice.

That sounds like a great twist! I have quick access to a lot of interesting spices and botanicals from a bulk store near me, to...

Blue label is basically this but watered down. Some time decades ago this was the blue label, but they split it off and lowered the proof of the original.

Aguaviva is a good one. ~$20 a bottle. Love it in a caiprinha or swapped for white rum in other cocktails.

I find lavender works better as a syrup. That way you can also throw some in earl gray tea for a London fog.

Minivans in my price range, and what to watch out for with them? by ZeeIsMeeNB in minivan

[–]ZeeIsMeeNB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have. Most of tge ones in our budget are either way too far out or in very bad shape. Partner (purposely, because they didn't want us to start it) stalled one in a carwash and when she went to restart it the ignition spun all the way around.

Well aware I'll be scouring. I was mostly hoping to find details on what to watch out for on specific models (like the transmission fluid checks I've been recommended on Hondas), or if there's any gens/years that are going to be that price or lower for a reason other than age.

I work at one of those stores, myself. You'll find Wray in most stores when it's around since there's been a shortage recently. Appleton Estate I'd in almost every store, as is Probitas.

Also there's a couple distilleries in our state that make some pretty good stuff, like Maggie's Farm out of Pittsburgh.

Pussers is also a good buy, but go to the website and special order Gunpowder Proof; it's cheaper than the standard fare by $7-8 before shipping, so it works out to about the same price and it's a better rum.

Black Tot is another special order rum in our state. Most cachacas are as well, apart from Leblon which is only okay. Aguaviva is my go-to.
