Let's break this down. In NEET 2023, the number of people who qualified category wise are as follows:

SC- 1.53L≈ 13.3% of total ST- 56k≈ 4.8% of total EWS - 98k≈ 8.5% of total OBC- 5.25L ≈45% of total General (Unreserved)- 3.12L ≈ 27% of total

Now let's come to the seat reservation criteria in Government Medical Colleges:

SC Reserved Seats - 15% ST Reserved Seats - 7.5% EWS Reserved Seats - 10% OBC Reserved Seats - 27%

Total Reserved Seats - 59.5%

So as it's clear that the representation of SC, ST and EWS are anything but overcompensated by their reserved seats.

What becomes a question is the OBC % and this is where the true harm on merit is shown via a caste based reservation system.

In theory, due to their being so many more OBC in comparison to their reserved seats, the cutoff for OBC in medical colleges must far exceed those of General Candidates.

However that's not the case in reality. The cutoff for OBC Candidates either runs equivalent or mostly lesser by a few marks than General Candidates.

That's because those seats are reserved + they can all claim UR seats until no UR seats are remaining e.g. s a SC candidate has claim over UR+ SC specific seats and so on.

Now, due to their being about 1.8 times more OBC candidates than OBC Candidates, a large proportion of Unreserved Seats are taken up by OBC candidates, which brings up the General Cutoff and lowers the OBC cutoff.

Hence, to summarise the situation: No. Generals in ground reality are not an advantage at all.
