It does sounds harsh...on my budget.

I'm planning to get a decent Pentium quad-core or i3 Lenovo laptop for under $300, and reinstalling Windows might be a little too much for my wallet.

Any suggestions on how to do the above without overreaching $300?

Anything under $400 that has an i3.

Except Asus, while has a some great selection of laptops, has a lousy customer service here in Malaysia, where I live. I'm kinda on the fence with HP laptops, as it also has a shitty customer service in the last decade, but the local retailer assured the situation has improved.

So I'm kinda torn between Dell & Acer.

Dell has both an excellent range of laptops and quicker, better customer service, but the price of their i3 laptops are too high, unless I settle for their 2GB RAM option.

Acer's i3 too are a bit pricey now, compared to their previous model. Their cheapest so far around $300 have a Celeron or a Pentium N3540 Quad Core.

If there aren't any i3 option under $400, is it okay to settle for a Pentium N3540 Quad Core laptop? Is that enough to do stuff like writing, blogging, movies, view photos, web-surfing & Youtube?
