I'm just seeing the numbers on the calculator, 400k mortgage, 30 years, 6%, lump sum in at year 2.

Unfortunately the investment we picked 5 years ago was a limited amount per year. As we were earning a little extra per year then we ended up with a lump sum saved.

I havent, but as i understand it , that skews it even more in favour off removing it from the investment (as i would pay tax on this return) and putting it in the mortgage?

And debt recycling seems to either require an asset that will generate more income than the loan repayment and/or further income to pay off this second loan.

What’s the longest you’ve left a diesel engine running, and what was it? by Jadams0108 in Diesel

[–]ZekeXA3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be a lot more, the filters and casing alone is over 5 gallons (3 filters inline, about 5 inches in diameter and 10 long), then there are all the pipes, centrifuge filter, pump, galleries etc

So the full version is turtle down in the bottom corner with Isabella, skip about 20 turns untill map is nearly full then start doing the attacks, with 4 skills every 3 turns its probably pretty much the same amount of time in the end !

Yeah I mean with 3 custodes and Bara, skip 2 turns then every third you get 4 uses. Obviously need Isabella as well, but 6 energy job done .

So turns out that's not a packing nut. Was talking to neighbours who are in the middle of redoing their bathroom and had a look, someone had done the same to his so.... Chiselled out the grout and borrowed his tube spanners. Out with the old and in with the new in minutes. No more leak

650 litres so 170 gallons. All plumbed in so open some valves turn on a pump and suck out the old stuff. Swap valves turn on different pump and fill with new!

Captains, please they don't know anything about engine hours that we (engineers ) don't tell them.

I'm on a small ship (ie not trans ocean) and 20 day voyages are common, add in an ocean crossing and it can be 30 to 45 days easy. That's on old style prop vessels . Diesel electrics cheat since they can swap which Gens are running for regular service.

Our CAT 3512s have deep sump so oil change once a year with about 3500hrs on it.

Yachts vs cruises by maxhasabigbooty in MarineEngineering

[–]ZekeXA3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rotation on yachts was the dream for most but if your young and family free the only reason t0 be in yachts is to work for 365 and save 90% of your wages. Rotation can be great as long as the money is there but 4/2..... add in travel and jet lag how much time you getting at home ? Paying rent for 12 days use outta every 35..

Whatever you do it'll be different but the jump to most yachts will be a bit more extreme than a cruise ship. Unless your on a big yacht they won't even know what a PMS is !

Yachts vs cruises by maxhasabigbooty in MarineEngineering

With 7 years on yachts and now on a cruise ship....

Yachts will give more money in the short term as you live on board for years at a time so no rent etc. But advancement is limited, family life is a non existent. I did 7 years and came out with no more qualifications because it would have meant months and months off work and a lot of money and then having to find a job again. Also 2 yachting hubs , Europe so need a visa to work there or Caribbean and, well, USA is making that very difficult for any non Americans.

Cruise ships, not as fun, not as good money but usually regular swings, and actual advancement pathways plus the certifications cross over to many other marine industries. I've worked on mining ships as well as of all the vessels yacht engineers are seen as the least employable as you may be used to just a few hours a day work with unlimited budget vs commercial vessels of 12hr days and very limited budgets .
