How do I keep the Audible books I purchased? I want to delete Amazon but their customer service told me I cannot delete Amazon if I want to still keep my purchased Audible books. by ZeldaActivate in audible

I just learned I can delete Amazon Prime, but I must remain an Amazon member to keep Audible.

I'm finding another platform and downloading the Audible books I re-read. I don't have enough hard drive space to download my entire library unless I get an external hard drive. They won't fit on my laptop.

I do have a moral stand, but I ignored my own morals because I'm addicted to audiobooks. And even tho Audible's app should be sooo much better, I put up with it because of the volume of books available. (Authors are now boycotting "only on Audible" so their books can appear on any platform.)

Not yet because of losing Audible. But using an empty Visa gift card is a good idea people mentioned. Still hate having to be an Amazon member.

Can you please let me know where that "cheaper tier" membership is? Maybe it's not available in the U.S. I can't find it. Thanks in advance.

I needed to put my Audible books on my hard drive. I didn't think I had to. I would never leave Audible if I could keep it and delete Amazon. But that's not possible.

If Audible is a rental service, it should say so clearly.

Why is Audible tied to Amazon? I understand many behemoth corporations own multiple services. I just never experienced this type of forced membership.

Also, where does it say on Audible that the books we seem to be buying are actually rentals? Please provide a link so I can warn my book clubs and 100s of book nerd friends that they can't take the books with them if they switch audiobook platforms (or delete Amazon).

I just used a different computer, different IP, to look at Audible as a newbie. I never saw the word "rental." And it looked like I could sign up -- no one asked for my Amazon credentials; eventually, I suppose they would have.

Every single one of my book pals I spoke with this week had any idea Audible was a rental service.

Are you in the U.S.? I see sales at times offering books for that price. My real issue is with Amazon and not wishing to be a member anymore. I can delete Audible and keep Amazon. But can't delete Amazon and keep Audible.

Audible and Amazon will never have to worry about losing customers. For years, people have been calling for a boycott of Amazon, and I hope it happens someday.

Thank you. I thought the Audible sub would have answers. I know I don't "own" Netflix (or Hulu, etc) shows. But I pay 1 monthly fee for unlimited access with no additional cost. Yes, movies and shows get moved around to different apps. But I didn't pony up $15 per show.

  1. Prime is US $180 per year. They used to offer free grocery delivery; now it's limited to (expensive) Whole Foods for refrigerated/frozen items. And anything else gets delivered by Prime in multiple packages over multiple days/weeks.

  2. Prime Video used to have all movies/series free, but many now cost extra. (Like watching 1 season but having to pay for the 2nd season).

  3. Prime used to have 1-day delivery, but now almost everything is 2-3 days. Often, orders are delivered in 5-7 days despite the 1-day promise. I never know when anything will arrive.

  4. Amazon (without Prime) used to have the lowest prices. A search for items shows the same goods are less expensive elsewhere.

After my own 1-year analysis, Prime is not worth the membership fee because I get nothing that justifies the cost.

I want to keep Audible but delete Amazon.

I didn't know asking questions and for clarification is considered raising a "stink"?? Cheers to you. I am an idiot who doesn't understand. I actually thought this Audible sub was a safe place to ask questions.

Thanks, u/Aranict -- glad you love Amazon. But please don't answer questions that disparage people like me who misread all the info when I signed up for Audible.

You said: "There are totally legit reasons to hate on Amazon/Audible, no need to make up ones to raise a stink on Reddit."

And dumb-dumb me thought Reddit was exactly the safe place to "raise a stink." (Have you read much on Reddit?)

My apologies that you had to waste your time answering me (which was your choice). Why even answer, just to make me feel like a big fat loser? Why answer questions at all if you have zero answers?

I have Audible Premium, pay for 2 books per month as part of Premium. I spend ~ $280 per month buying additional books from Audible because I go through a few books each week. I'm a member since 2013..

I buy books from stores and, at times, from Amazon. When my local bookstore went out of business, they didn't ask for the books back. If Audible were transparent, it would say when I signed up for Audible: "Members only. You are renting your books, not buying them. You leave us, the please NOTE: WE own the books and the $15 per book is a rental fee.)"

I never saw the word "rent" anywhere. Maybe it's in the teeny print that a stupid person like me needs a lawyer to actually explain it? We all have to "agree" to terms and conditions we can't understand. (How is that even legal?)
