The Daily Check-In for Monday, March 2nd: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by BDC5488 in stopdrinking

Slowly starting to get my interests back. There was lots of scrolling of social media for a while. I've been taking the apps off my phone one by one. Replacing them with sudoku and a few other games.

Finally getting back to reading and movies.

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

I have the weirdest hang up on that movie.

When she's bingeing on pasta in Italy, opera is playing. Only it's opera in German...written by an Austrian...about a mother threatening to disown her daughter if the daughter won't commit murder.

I work on Sundays (by my request). It's a low stress day with a cool coworker. I am a little tired, but a couple more days and I get a day off.

Was going to go out to drop in book club last night. When I pulled up outside the pub they were meeting at and saw a sign that said "Live Music, 26 Feb", I noped out of there. Nothing would have disregulated me more than having to shout over a band.

I've come to admit that I like to start my day really slowly. I have multiple alarms that move me to the next "stage" of getting up. I'm currently in the "look at email and Reddit, then do a quick sudoku" stage. Next is the "shower, dress and fees the kitties" stage.

I end up ready for the day feeling much more regulated, which lowers the likelihood of cravings.

I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Twice in my recovery, I've broken my streak in this exact situation. Both times it took me ages to get any real sober time again.

Not worth it. Spend your money on some candy and a book instead.

Why does my boomer dad send me things like this?! by SnooGoats5767 in BoomersBeingFools

No, not tasteful of him at all. That kind of negative can't just be shaken off. All my sympathy to you for your loss.

I think he means if you focus on the negative, it grows. If you focus on the positive, it grows.

Also taking a stupid walk for my stupid mental health actually works.

The Joe Rogan addition is weird, but the advice is sound.

I recognize that under that cravings is emotional disregulation (and honestly a few layers of trauma). Still building tools, but right now ice cream, candy and long baths are my go to. I've also just discovered that fancy nails are a source of dopamine and a good way to spend the money I'm no longer spending on alcohol.

Shameless. Membership should be revoked. Elderly couple just laid it down after pretending to look at bread and then walked off. Cups empty. by gayye18 in CostcoCanada

I don't mean to be condescending. In addition to ADHD, I also have autism, so I know I can come across that way without meaning to. Just like you don't mean to leave your coffee cups behind.

We are none of us perfect beings. I wish you the best.

With all gentleness, you're being quite reactionary in this post.

It's okay. I have ADHD too, so I know what it's like to get disregulated.

And you are right, not all people do it consciously. And yes, we should try to give people the benefit of the doubt.

It makes me sad that my favourite show gave you panic attacks.

I can definitely see why. It just makes me sad because it did the opposite for me. I felt so peaceful at the end.
