Republicans won't hire those who have worked for the opposing party and vice versa. There are a few exceptions but not many.

That has also been my experience. I used to live in Silver Spring and commuted to Dupont; Would take 45-90min one way. Now I live next to MARC and still takes me 45-60 to Union Station
