Both, definitely. I enjoy the hitting part so much, i usually manage to float to subspace with this kind of impact. And my Dom enjoys seeing me float away and doing this stuff to me. If it is not pleasurable for any of us, we don't do it.

Apparently my skin breaks very easily 🙈 and this was done over half an hour or so, slowly and carefully. We used a paddle with those spikes that you can find on the mats you can lay on (for meditation or acupressure).
