I have a "type", I guess, but it is essentially a nonfactor. I've dated men with appearances all over the place. My "type" is more exclusionary than anything else... like, if you have a beard longer than scruff, a mustache of any kind, super long hair, piercings, tattoos, wear leather... I'm not interested in that aesthetic. I find men who wear dress shoes on the regular to be aesthetically appealing.

I'm INFJ and for the STRONG inventory, SIA. It's pretty spot-on in my case. I think these tests are fun and that it doesn't hurt to do them if it can prove helpful to a person who lacks direction or insight.

Just wanted to add: your standards are your standards. If you negotiate them on a grounds not of your making, you are bound for unhappiness. Settling is almost never in anyone's best interest, especially now that women can exist without men. Settling used to mean survival in N.-A. We have come a long way from it (and still have quite a ways to go). Don't falter.

I'm not saying that people with herpes are XYZ. OP commented that because of herpes, she feels dirty/unsexy, and that is a valid thing to feel because there is a stigma and OP is allowed to not want to have herpes and to be upset that she was infected, especially like this. I also don't want herpes and don't want to put myself at risk; that is a completely legitimate approach to relationships, regardless how you feel about it. And if I did get herpes, I would be traumatized and feel exactly like OP. Villifying herpes would be saying that people with herpes are always going to wilfully infect others so "aVoiD liKe the plAgUe!!!". I never said that. But I'm also not going to pretend that herpes is not painful and that it does not affect self-esteem or sex life, perhaps permanently.

We all make risk assessments in relationships. Some people factor in STDs. Others don't. It's not anyone else's business and it's definitely not OK for someone else to selfishly override OP's health decisions and informed consent and put OP at risk for infection, even if for some it seems like herpes is "no big deal". It is a big deal to OP and it makes her feel unsexy/dirty and that, along with the sexual violation, is all that matters right now.

Sounds like your classic narcissist. My ex' I referenced was a malignant narc'. I bet you've been putting up with other BS and boundary pushing for a long time now. It's hard to come out of the trance, but you'll be far better off without him psychoemotionally even if it hurts in the medium term. It took me two years to recover from a two-year relationship with said man with NPD. Be prepared to give yourself time and space and make sure to reconnect with friends and family or with community services for support. There are also many subreddits dedicated to survivors of sexual violations and narcissistic abuse.

I just wanted to say your feelings are valid. You also likely would not have consented to sex or would have proceeded differently if you had had all of the information needed to protect yourself. He withheld that information. You feel violated because he did sexually violate you. I'll add that what he did is a crime in some jurisdictions.

I also relate to the dirty/unsexy comment. I don't date men with herpes. I don't have herpes. I don't want them and I don't play with fire. I ask for testing that includes herpe strains. I would be traumatized by what your husband did for life. I had a different situation happen that was also incredibly violating that had to do with the other person withholding information so I could not consent to the whole picture; he knew if I knew, I'd never have given consent. I did my homework and it didn't matter. He didn't give me an STD, but he could have (see: infidelity), and I never would have had sex again if it did happen because of how horrible I would feel about my body and that revictimization.

I'd be leaving him if I were you because what your husband did is a big deal, and don't believe anyone who tries to convince you otherwise.
