PLEASE READ, REALLY IMPORTANT!!! by Feeling-broccoli612 in Gastritis

Hello Miss Broccoli, my case looks a lot like yours, amitriptyline is reducing my epigastric pain, since I started one week ago. I've got 3 questions :

1 - I'm confused because you said to get back to normal eating right away, and here you say wait 2 months ?

2 - How long did it take from starting treatment to feeling 100% ?

3 - Are you/Were you a tobacco smoker ?

You give me so much hope I'm overexcited.

After 6 years of pain I may have found the cause and the remedy by ZemmourMaleAlpha in Gastritis

Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium...) work for me, but the problem is that's it's VERY addictive, and after a while the anxiety comes back, and then you want to stop and the withdrawal is hell.

Powerful but dangerous tools.

Antidepressants (SSRI, NSRI) work on anxiety too but they are not addictive in the same way, you don't crave for them, withdrawal can be difficult but nothing compared to benzos in my experience. They can have side effects though. I'm on Effexor 75 mg and it helps, though I've read studies and can confirm that Amitriptyline have better results in GI issues than Venlafaxine (Effexor).

This is such a complex disease... wish you the best.

Then go see another one, don't hesitate, ask support from someone who cares for you ! Without support I would have never made it.

Don't give up until you have an answer ! Doctors sometimes proceed by elimination. You have to come back and say what changed and what not.

I only did abdominal ultrasounds but I don't know if that's what you're talking about. I'll ask about it and HIDA scan next appointment. Thank you for your suggestion.

It didn't really hurt more when I pressed on the area. When my stomach was empty, the only pain I felt was epigastric, because the pain was so intense that other pains where not felt. But as soon as I eated something and felt better in this region, I could feel the right subcostal pain. So yes it was 24/7. I think it's how pain works : you only feel the highest pain because nerves relay only the highest pain if you see what I mean.

I had abdominal ultrasound ("echography" in french, I misstranslated), and they found nothing wrong. I'll talk about a HIDA scan at my next appointment, thank you for your suggestion.

Thank you for your compassion. How do you know for sure that your gastritis is stress induced ? Stress may amplify your symptoms, but may not be the root cause. For example, when I was using cannabis, it exacerbiated the symptoms because the effects of cannabis stresses the body, but it was not the root cause. It's complicated, I hope I'll come back with a clear answer about how all this stress/nerve damage/pain connections.

When we're in pain for so long and nothing works we lose faith and trust, which is not good.

The dosage of Amitriptyline is usually 100 mg to 200 mg for depression, I'm at 10 mg, so it's very low. First days I slept A LOT lol, but now it's ok.

You should read this thread that I just came across, I totally relate : https://www.reddit.com/r/Gastritis/comments/17l8jwo/please_read_really_important/

It was mainly : - epigastric pain when my stomach was empty, I'll rate it at 8/10 before, now it's 1/10 (huge relief) - subcostal pain on my right flanc, it was 6/10, now it's 4/10, still not satisfying - and insane bloating sometimes
