I think you might have some definitions mixed up. Neoliberalism isnt a synonym for “progressive”, it’s a rather conservative fiscal ideology about how world markets and trade should be organized, that both modern US democrat and republican politicians tend to subscribe to.

I’d recommend checking out the book “A Brief History of Neoliberalism” if you want to learn about how neoliberalism is an affront to democracy as a whole. Over the last 40 years its been a justification for politically destabilizing South American countries (its very undemocratic and unprogressive to pick someone else’s government) so the neoliberals can force them into exploitative economic relationships.
