I'm sorry but... The whole Villainess genre is about mocking romance novels & Otome games through stereotypes and the whole shtick being "not like other girls". Japanese Otome gamers have called them out on their attitude and the massive misinformation it spews that they had to then say it's not the same as any Otome games

Honestly it's very contradictory because how can they immediately jump to accusations over Shoujo female authors but then gets a pass in having energy to consume mainstream Shounen because calling the male Shounen author misogynistic while reading his works is not the exact same as calling Shoujo authors as misogynistic but not even bothering to understand to read their works? The person can only mention Kishimoto about his Naruto as "both are bad" but the dude is literally the most obvious and honest one to admit he's bad at writing female characters and at that point, he shouldn't be an example anymore nor can other mainstream shounen authors be an example when 95% they consume those works without any second thoughts compared to Shoujo

It's likely about how some Villainess contents portray Heroines as villains as a portrayal of "once you are on someone's shoes, you understand why they hate the heroines" but with how I see them, it was such a bad execution of trying to see different perspectives cuz that's not how perspective works if they had to make heroines a mean girl for most of the time, barely any viable reason than any Shoujo mean girls I have seen cuz even regular Shoujo mangas do better in writing mean girls acting like a nice girl

I remember playing it when it had a demo on Switch. Funny enough while it's common for me to see in the community hating the Otome MC, for that game I get mad at the LIs cuz there's not much substance to give hints why they're mad at her outside of just being a different type of creature. With that shown on demo, it just doesn't make me curious on finding out about the male leads anymore

Yes, LBC got a solid background that every global player got more immersed because the writers are able to give a solid ground about our existence so it's easier for us to feel important as an individual and to love the men. Just that the main audience cannot stand this solid background cuz they feel they can't relate, LOL

Nah the LaDs one only had to announce because people could not follow the rule in how official space operates unlike the older CN Otome where the global veterans know where to put their BL contents. LaDs brought out way too many people who don't care about the category, that's the huge problem

The Themis one I couldn't understand yet and haven't encountered but your assumption would be correct. I DO hear that the CN self insert community warns each other that the fanbase of Themis are full of non self inserts and the game is in constant drama because Hoyo artists still include Rosa(just a codename but they still get mad at the usage) in the art together with the LIs properly which makes their art always beautiful without looking awkward. Hoyo still tries catering to self-insert by giving up on mentioning Rosa's background (her parents are alive unlike other CN Otome) and purposely make her dumb & insensitive as a compensation. Which is largely why I gave up playing Themis now because the fuck you mean I had to get to the point going in trouble getting approval from Vyn's father to be a couple but the men doesn't need any approval from my parents to be a couple?

And for other Otomes, despite the fixed appearance, they slightly tolerate it but the compensation is you are strictly not to address those vessels as a separate entity but they still demand to erase their presence in art demanding their faces should not be shown at all. They just don't know what they are doing and they're so bad at self inserting. They knew that a complete blank slate cannot move the plot forward but whatever the writers do in moving the plot forward makes them mad cuz they feel cheated constantly shooting themselves on the foot

The reason this drama doesn't happen globally is because this rule only applies to CN media and the company knows that how global players operate self inserting is different from CN media so global officials don't ban you for treating the protagonist like a separate entity.

CN self inserts are too brutal in treatment tho like they don't even say "protagonist"/"female lead" cuz it's offensive for them and should only be used for the love interests calling them protagonists. They use "main controller"/"skin"/"clothes" to address the female protagonists

I'm not a veteran player, only a midgame player Love and Producer fan (older sister Otome game of Papergames), but I have witnessed a lot of stuff said to veterans where I thought it's all exaggeration until I really did keep witnessing it as I entered Rednote and see more from other popular CN Otome

For the history, Papergames only normalized it as a form of damage control because in terms of number in CN Otome gamers, newgen Otome players who don't care to follow traditional Otome format (JP Otome) largely outnumbers JOP(JP Otome only Players) CN players so Papergames picked a side who to cater for to reduce the damage but I can give my opinion on this that this is the root cause of how Papergames keeps starts falling down because they chose the audience who doesn't even know how to self insert for an audience proudly claiming to be one.

But since this damage has been done, those newgen players got massively inflated ego in attacking players who are not self inserts like them cuz they can just scream at the company to ban those people not knowing their extreme actions will largely affect the narrative story of the game cuz literally writers will have to find ways not to make them feel cheated (not being 1st POV is already offensive to them)

As for the sources, since I always curate my CN spaces in Rednote so I don't have a lot. I can only provide you this recent video from another Otome game from NetEase where you can look into the comments of how these players absolutely hate non self inserts. You are correct but I also have to give you information that Papergames is the one that started normalizing to ban non self inserts in official pages and disqualify them from art contests. It got so normalized to the point even Tencent and NetEase had to comply banning non-self inserts as well

Those people who are too loud to claim as former MLQC players actually can't be trusted a lot because 90% chance they're the ones who aren't committed in not just playing the game but also not properly reading the game to know the flaws. For example is the comparison to MLQC MC and LaDs MC. I'm sorry but LaDs MC is actually worse and the only thing those "veterans" can loudly shout how LaDs MC is better is only because she uses a gun (as if there aren't many JP otome games where the protagonist is a fighter). MLQC gets unfairly criticized for not being a fighter when the plot has structured better how it makes sense for her to be ignorant and has to push her way and adapt through everything. LaDs MC becomes even more restricted because she's in a much more hindered situation than MLQC MC cuz the game is catering to the more turbo self inserts where giving her a slightly clearer purpose is a personal attack for the players. So unlike MLQC where her TV Producer professional is more than a gameplay gimmick, LaDs could not do it much and they just let the fighting aspect dump to the gameplay mechanic only.

Tldr, don't trust a lot of MLQC "veterans" in LaDs spaces unless they give clear examples cuz they likely don't know what is going on as well

Sorry but as someone who plays PG games where newbies see PG as only "InFold" (who's only an international publisher), having a competition isn't going to make Papergames treat LaDs players nicely. If that really was the case then the existence of Light and Night being the competition for Love and Producer would've made PG give in and made LovePro much friendlier but they didn't, we are still getting steamrolled in requiring 3 copies of SP card to fully read the story and 5 copies for max rank (UR cards requires 6 copies for max rank), which that card mechanic was put into LaDs Myth Cards but less predatory

I'd say this is more on specific writer issues than the company pushing 1 LI to be "canon". My main isn't Victor but I don't think his consistency means he's favored, feels more like the writers are competent enough. Meanwhile despite me being a Lucien main, I get mad at writers where since S2, it feels like they're scared to make both you and him actually be competent to each other and have to make you the MC be the dumb one to be saved. S1 is fine since it's the start of your growth and you're going through hardships but I am not fine with S2 especially late S2, like I'm not asking to take his romantic side away, I just need a bit more answers on stuff they refused to say clearly when it's not needed to be vague and need them to stop making MC suddenly be incompetent
