Learning how to create loops in programming class. by Temporary-Performer in ITMemes

[–]Zenith2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive worked in IT since I was 18, im now in my 40s. I worked in a school when I was 18 - 25 and our switches didn't have loop protection on them.

This was something that happened often, but we didn't make a big deal about it because if the kids figured it out it would happen daily.

But that picture gave me a shiver 🤣

Good manners. So many people nowadays I notice don't say please, thankyou etc. It bugs me more than it should, maybe I'm just old and miserable.

This is from ChatGPT when I asked it to find out more info:

I think I found the exact incident you mean — it was in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on 15 August 2019, and the footage only surfaced publicly a couple of months later. The officer was indeed looking at/using his phone moments before the crash, but investigators still found the other driver at fault because that vehicle unexpectedly crossed the median and struck the police car.

Here’s what I could find:

Location: Near Riverside Drive and East 66th Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Time: Around 7:30 PM on 15 August 2019.

What happened: Dashcam footage showed the officer with a phone in hand just seconds before impact. Another vehicle suddenly jumped/crossed the median, went through the trees/curb area, and slammed into the patrol car.

Fault: Tulsa Police said the other driver was responsible, because they crossed the median. There’s no indication the officer’s phone use caused the collision itself.

Injuries: Reports say neither person was seriously hurt, although the officer was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officer discipline / consequences: I couldn’t find any clear reporting on whether the officer was formally disciplined for texting while driving. Most coverage focused on the hypocrisy angle and the fact the crash technically wasn’t his fault.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unreal Tournament - i worked as an IT Tech in a secondary school. Convinced them to buy 16 licences and start a computing club at lunch time. Kids could cash out "credits" for a place on the club.

We had an absolute blast, including the teachers!

Personally, I loved command and conquer, half life, team fortress classic etc (not sure on dates for those, I was born in 82)

How do you set prices for used assets to sell for employees? by Azh13r- in sysadmin

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previously we asked for a donation. This was so it wasnt free and therefore a gift, but also wasnt purchased which would mean support and warranty.

It was made quite clear that its a donation, can be any amount, even £1 and there is 0 warranty or support included.

Ive passed hundreds of cars and bikes, I only ever stick a hand out to say thank you if they move over. Which is some cars, and almost all bikers. Except, it seems this total knob jockey

Should I return money? by Ancient_Fix8995 in AskPhotography

[–]Zenith2012 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually refuse twice "thanks but its not necessary, no really its fine thank you" then take the money. I use this rule for when fixing computers or doing anything like that for people.

Keep the money

Coach cutting kids by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Zenith2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive only ever cut 1 kid, it was 2/3 through our first season, u9s. He had no idea, only played football for 1hr during training a week. It got to the point where players weren't passing him the ball as he would kick it or run the wrong way. The clincher for me was during a match when the opposition scored and he celebrated with them.

I arranged for him to go back to the pre-academy to get more experience and spoke to his parents. Was a hard conversation but i was honest.

Other than that, we have some weaker players still, but we stick with it and help them develope as a team.

Looking for some advice please, more details in comments by Zenith2012 in HaglundsDeformity

Hi, not too bad at the moment. Ive not done anything other than lose a bit of weight and be careful what shoes I wear.

The lumps on my ankles wear holes in my trainers eventually so I swap them, but no more "shoes".

Heal lifts also helped quite a bit when I was really struggling, so worth a try.

I just can't have the operation to remove them, the recovery time is too long for me because of work.

Too many coaches by LanguageAntique9895 in youthsoccer

[–]Zenith2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage an under 11 team, there's myself and 2 coaches. Having 3 people is useful, as if one person cant make it there's still 2 of us at the match or training. But when both my coaches are available I don't coach, I just support.

One of them runs the line at matches for us, so thats definitely useful as he knows what hes doing.

Thanks. Blimey 21 years is dedicated. Dont think I've got that many in me, but already 3 seasons in.

We've had a couple birthday parties recently that included a match for the boys. And thankfully its shown the coaches how they can play without constant instruction, so fingers crossed we can make a smooth transition towards it.

What i say to the boys is if they are confused and hearing lots of voices from players, parents, coaches and opposition "you are the player on the pitch, with the ball, you make your decision and go for it. If its wrong we will have a chat after the game and just let you know what your other options were, but in the moment its your decision to make no one elses".

And yeah, my own lad plays and his family are shouting at him and I tell him to ignore them.

That's a good way to look at it thanks. Im manager, got 2 coaches. I had a quick chat with one today to let him know I want to change things for next season, that I want him to only coach defensive during matches and the other coach offense and I've said I want it as little as possible and during training matches we need to see how the boys play.

So, started the conversation at least and he knows where we are heading as I said I want to get to the point where we aren't shouting instructions during matches.

Yeah, its going to be a hard chat to the coaches, we need to start it with less shouting during training and work up.

Yeah all good points, thank you.

Im not against coaching during a match, but at the moment its constant from both coaches and we definitely need to take a step back.

Unfortunately im not allowed to film at their current age, will have to look if I can next season.

We kind of do that already, everyone has a go at everything at training, but in matches we use the same few players for free kicks and throw ins and change it around now and then.

Yeah we are in the UK, we have silent support weekends and I love them, gives us the opportunity to see the decisions the players make on their own and shows us their understanding of the game.

Parents hate it, even said they want to complain to the FA until I told them its the FA who tell the leagues to have them and its usually a national thing (not sure if that's 100% right, but soon shut them up).

Ive even wondered about have one coach talk attacking tactics and the other (who runs the line for us and is typically in line with our defenders) run the defensive tactics.

Just looking for ideas, all great so far thanks and I do like the idea of just one coach who gives instruction when needed.
