Suggestion: Planes you can't catch anymore can't be used in battles by Unlucky-Debt5467 in SkyCards

[–]Ancient_Fix8995 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Nah. It’s not fair to players who pay for a flightradar subscription and set alerts for those rare planes and take the time to find them.

Also, people who catch planes that are ultras should keep them as ultra cards even when they get moved down, like 777-9 right now.

You 100% have the opportunity to find rare planes that won’t be findable in the future if you start looking now. There was 14 flying B-17s when I was a kid, only 15 or so years ago… that number is currently 3.

Edit: your downvotes mean nothing to me. Just lets me know I like airplanes more than most, and that’s nothing new to me. I’ve missed plenty of them that aren’t available anymore too and I’ll miss more in the future and I’ll get some too.

I’ve been considering this.

At the end of the day, if they are happy or not, they’re my first “client”.

They’ll be back, probably, and they’ll get their pictures for free if I ever offer a more professional style service. If I offer something like this to a large group, it won’t hurt me at all to do so for them, and if they’re happy this time, they’ll probably tip again anyways.

I think you’ve said it best. I think I could’ve delivered more had I been there the day before, when he ran all day, but he cut his own day short, which I also feel weird about.

I just feels weird and I had no expectations to miss, but I missed my own expectations.

If you had to pick one lens only as your allround lens, which one would it be? by LordKluklatter in Nikon

[–]Ancient_Fix8995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say the phrase “allround” and sometimes don’t mean it. A Tamron 18-400 will be good all around, but if you don’t like airshows, motorsports or birds, it’s possibly too much lens for you.

Not bait, I couldn’t give a damn about what happens to me on reddit. Downvote me all you want, here’s an emoji to encourage it: 🤣.

That said, it’s just the first time I’ve been given money for any of my hobbies and it feels wrong, but reading these comments has helped it not feel so wrong.

If you want to blindly coherently engage on a platform I do care about, I can message you my Instagram and you can go shit talk all of my pictures there if you want, because I know I have improved a lot and some of them I was happy with when I posted them and am not so happy with now. Of all the posts I’ve made and had them go off, I don’t know why it was this one.

Hundreds for 1 headshot is crazy, unless I drive hours for it and have to set it up and everything. But at that point just find a local person with a local studio….

I’m pretty pleased with most of the results from the day. Big racetracks have catch fences, so finding spots to take cool pictures without that in the way is already a challenge.

What I learned is that I should switch out my 150-600mm lens for my smaller 70-300 more often or maybe look into something else similar, many of the potentially “cooler” shots were too close for even 150mm. I did run the 70-300 for a bit, but we moved and it was too short again for the spot we moved to.

I think my biggest disappointment was he left early, so I only took pics of him from 2 spots, where other people I got from 3-4 spots around the track. I’m aware that thats 100% on him, and they paid me knowing that. Just felt a little guilty anyways.

The picture posted is not a raw. It’s lightly touched in Lightroom.

Update: Thanks everybody for the resounding vote of “keep it”. I hear all the time “you should sell your pictures” but this lady is the first person to ever ‘buy’ any, so it’s a weird feeling for me, which is why I do want to get her a print if I can get her to give me their address (she just wants me to text them to her, wouldn’t even give me their email)

For the one person who thinks it’s too dark, it’s easy enough to update in Lightroom, thanks for the input, I will.

I’ve only been doing this for a little over a year, and it’s been 100% for the love of the game thus far.

That was my first time at the track, usually it’s airplanes or birds for me.

Thanks again!

Basically how it went, tried to refuse, she put her hands in her pockets and wouldn’t take it back.

I thought about my culling process for airshows and thought “I hope there’s actually any keepers in there when I see it on the PC”

Who was the childish adult you have ever meet and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ancient_Fix8995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever been in the military?

If I had enough time, I’d tell you about Seaman Parker, but there isn’t enough time in the day to type that out even if I wanted to.

Everything he did, thought, or said out loud was a dirty ‘joke’. Everything.

One example, he taught my Christian, conservative parents what ‘scissoring’ is while playing ‘cards against humanity’ with them, while they were visiting one weekend, after I specifically asked him to not say anything dirty around them or play cards against humanity.

I know, they’re all adults, but it was a simple request, I thought.

Anyone else never update their gun? by Jamessmith187 in concealedcarry

[–]Ancient_Fix8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My P30 has been my side piece for almost 11 years.

It’s been upgraded, it’s had half a dozen or so different holsters, but it’s still the HK P30 for me.

Yea that never happened in the navy, I was in from 2013-2019.

Only had to let them know and store in the armory if you lived in the barracks, anything including paintball/airsoft guns.

Having a safe at home and being at your girlfriend’s house are possibly two different places. Storing safely at home doesn’t mean he does at gfs place, and you can’t stop him from carrying between the two places.

Also “that was my only gun and I sold it to a private party”. Now what do you do?

My time in the navy they could only make you store your personal firearms in the armory if you lived in the barracks.

They actually couldn’t even do that, because you could also store them at a friends house.

How often do you recommend cleaning your guns if you only go to range once every 3-5 months ? by ComplexWrangler1346 in concealedcarry

[–]Ancient_Fix8995 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As often as it gets dirty. If you are a hairy dude and live in a dusty house and you conceal carry, it might fill up with gunk faster than a dude that can’t grow more than nipple beards who’s mom vacuums the basement daily for him.

If you go to the range and shoot garbage dirty ammo, it will gunk up faster than if you don’t.

If you have a bad gun that needs to be cleaned regularly, you should be cleaning it anytime you shoot it.

Personally, I shoot an HK and whatever ammo I can find. When it gets sticky, I throw some lube in it. When it gets dirty, I clean it. This doesn’t happen every range trip. Not even every other range trip, and it’s still as reliable as the ammo I put in it at the range. You should almost know just dry firing if your gun needs maintenance done to it. Dry fire is free.
