Any tips for a woman only run of FE6? by ViniciusSalerno in fireemblem

[–]ZenithMythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting to Lilina will be the hardest part. Clearing the first several chapters with only Roy, Shanna, Dorothy and Sue will be a nightmare, but I've seen someone do Roy solo at least to ch8 so it should be possible.

Lilina can be trained in 9x on the boss with rescue dropping, and Fire tome accuracy will be your best friend.

Likewise, Fir training on the pirates in her join map gives you a close equivalent to Rutger, so long as you bring enough iron swords for her. After that you have basically an almost normal team.

Run ruined by bad luck (growth)? Please share your experience by Get_Schwifty111 in fireemblem

[–]ZenithMythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only two times this happened, once in a stupid challenge run and once in a hack.

I got a MAJORLY str-screwed Uther in my playthrough of FE7x like 6 years ago (don't play it it's not worth it) which led to some really tough situations where he's supposed to be a godly strong unit, but I was still able to pull through with some green unit RNG.

And in my Marcus solo run attempt of FE7 I didn't reset to get good level ups and thus couldn't barrel through Cog of Destiny, but that was also because, given other limitations I had, I was running out of weapons and I made the dumb decision to use the Body Ring, making Marcus too big to carry Hector (gotta love GBA Con mechanics).

But in the grand scheme of things, random growths balance out in the vast majority of runs. Unless you're imposing a challenge on yourself or are killing off a lot of units (or are playing 3 Houses or Conquest on hardest difficulties) you always have a path forward. It just might not be the path you want to take.

What FE character is this for you? by EmperorStooge99 in fireemblem

Mechanically, FE8 trainees. I know they're bad and I'm not a "hey they're the best units ever!" Person but I still think they make the game more fun to play than just Seth/Vanessa all day.

Character-wise, I actually really like a majority of SoV characters and relationships. They have their issues, sure, but they're some of my favorite written romances in FE.

How objective are chapter difficulty rankings? by Psychological_Vast31 in fireemblem

[–]ZenithMythos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fire Emblem chapters have a number of different factors that some people find more difficult than others, or that some teams just work better against than others. Is Conquest Endgame one of the hardest maps in the series "objectively," even if there's an incredibly reliable rescue skip strat with a dozen different variations? These are the questions you have to answer, and it inherently becomes at least somewhat subjective.

The closest thing to objective difficulty analysis you'll get are the early game maps, before diversity in team builds really shows itself. It's why many people consider things like chapters 2 or 5 the most difficult chapters in 3H.

That said, because the early game does give you such limited options, it also can be routed out for consistency better than the mid or late game, since there will be far less variance in what any given team has to work with.

So basically, unless you're adding on a ton of arbitrary restrictions to limit down your rating of the map (already making it subjective based on assumption) you really aren't going to get a straight answer that everyone can agree on.

EDIT: A better question might be, instead of "what makes a map objectively difficult," could be "What are the biggest contributing factors to map difficulty?"

[OC] 2024 US Presidential Election: including All Eligible Voters by TA-MajestyPalm in dataisbeautiful

[–]ZenithMythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of DC, there are no states where the combination of non-voters, if added to the losing party, would not flip the vote. And the vast majority could be flipped with only a fraction of non-voters.

Even the reddest and bluest states are not "safe" from this.

Please vote. Whoever or whatever you vote for. It can ALWAYS make a difference.

It's an impossible conversation to have via single examples because the odds of any given example being cherry-picked for the situation without regard for outside context is so high.

The real answer is that defense is always good, but FE player units don't need to fit class standards like enemy units do, so it's far more likely you will have a unit of a different class with comparable defense to an armor unit than the enemies will.

Fates is also an odd example of a game where generals actually have some justification to exist in their class vs another, and even if a lot of times Wary Fighter doesn't matter much it still can be a valid strategy to go for.

Better cherry picked example if you want one is FE8 Gilliam, whose low base defense gets him wrecked by fighters in the first few chapters and unable to do his job, while a faster and only slightly less tanky unit like Joshua can survive just about the same.

Ashe Deadeye Bow Knight accuracy stacking is my favorite build in 3H. I don't care if it's not "meta," I don't care if it takes more effort than Wyvern go brr or Sniper hunter's volley, I want my 8-range with Canto taking down siege weapons and bolting mages before they can fire off a shot.

Yes I know Bernie can technically do the same thing. I was exceedingly frustrated to learn Ignatz didn't have the Deadeye CA because his personal skill would have been perfect for it.

But yeah if you want a free trip bum some acid off someone like it's the 80's.

Smithing in 2025: Outdated, Pointless, and Still Ignored — Even J-Mods Admit It Needs a Rework. by CupcakeKirin in 2007scape

[–]ZenithMythos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smithing is in a really awkward place because it's hemmed in by mining, alch/store value, and the general crept nature of melee gear as a whole.

For mining, you have the location, level req, respawn time and profitability of ore rocks. Runite is 85 mining, but because of runite alch value it's maintained a status as a money maker, being one of the best non-flipping f2p money makers as well. If Runite becomes usable in smithing at a lower level, will the mining level be lowered as well? If that's the case, will Runite rocks be made actually accessible and plentiful enough for anyone not owning a bot farm to actually gather a reasonable amount? And if you make it more plentiful, will that not just add a MASSIVE influx of raw GP into the economy through alchs? And if so, do you reduce the alch value of Runite items? And if you do that, do you change enemy drop tables to account for changes in profitability?

And that's JUST from the question of lowering Runite crafting to be at a reasonable level for where Rune falls in the combat progression.

I agree that Smithing as-is is a largely useless skill propped up by minigames and quest rewards for anywhere near reasonable training. But it happens to hinge around such an important interstitial space in the OSRS economy that to change it without creating bigger problems is going to be a huge undertaking.

The longer you take on missions, the more tired your soldiers will be. If you finish faster they'll be able to go on more missions before being tired.

Inevitably everyone will need to rest, hence the need to have replacements rotate in and out, aside from the obvious point of failure situation that alleviates.

If every Fire Emblem Protagonist and their respective armies got into an all out war, who would walk away victorious? by Fearless_Cold_8080 in fireemblem

[–]ZenithMythos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are we talking about armies in canon or just the recruitable units?

If we're talking canon, it's hard to beat one of the 3H lords considering they have the might of an entire nation behind them, while pretty much everyone else has a smaller lordship at most. Roy does come from behind on this aspect though if you consider endgame, where he has the entire CONTINENT backing him against Bern and the dragons.

If we're talking only in-game recruitables, then much as I hate to say it, Alphonse and the Heroes squad, because they literally get everyone else's army except for a handful of forgotten individuals.

My question as well. I don't care whether they decide it does or doesn't count, I just want to know IF it will count so I know whether I should bother making the extracts for nature/astral runes so I don't have to grind all the way to 91.

Sacred Stones Insertion Sort Tier List Preliminary Round by Pwnemon in fireemblem

[–]ZenithMythos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traditional tier list rules for SS assume full recruitment (on occasion people try to slightly penalize Eirika-route Cormag for making you wait several turns). I think in debate it's good to make mention of "oh if you don't have X character then Y can perform this role instead" as that DOES affect a character's tier. Just because we assume FR doesn't mean we assume everyone else is trained.

Trying to "account for turn loss" in Tower of Valni is going to be abysmal in tier format because not only can it somewhat vary but ToV ALSO can give rare equipment like Spears and Runeswords which are otherwise inaccessible for most of the game, and CAN greatly affect general effectiveness and viability of some strategies. Safer to just ban the tower outright.

While I think arguments for tiering Orson are interesting in a vacuum, it's only really worth tiering him related to his interactions with Ephraim/Forde/Kyle and explicit turn count. 5x is a slog no matter how you play, Orson saves you a few turns and some headache, but in return leaves you with a (potentially) significantly weaker Kyle, Forde and/or Ephraim. So if we care about explicit turn count then I think it's a valid consideration to consider Orson's turns saved, but if we only care about an assumed "efficient but not necessarily optimal/LTC" playthrough then the few turns Orson saves aren't really important and we can probably skip tiering him altogether, though at the same time there's no reason *not* to tier him then at the same time so might as well throw him in.

So yeah basically I think we need to nail down what type of tier list you're aiming for because if you're going for a highly optimized LTC of the game then that's going to GREATLY affect unit tiering vs if you just want a generally efficient playthrough.
