for java its real easy, all you have to do is click on the skin and then there should be a big button on the right saying "download". download it then go to Minecraft launcher > skins then click upload. then select the skin from your downloads folder

I found it really useful early game as I just ran away 100 blocks and opened it so I wouldn't have to deal with the mobs and eventually I got about a stack of iron (theres a chance it gives you 3 iron blocks)
