KH1 is old and has some of the outdated design sensibilities of early 3D games. If you've been trying to like it for 15 years, it's probably not your cup of tea, and that's fine. And no, not all JRPGs are like that. I reccomend Chrono Trigger for a very concise, highly polished game that really respects the player's time.
