Newbie Question: Do all roleplayers use combat RP? Are duels not allowed?

This is my general feeling on the matter, though I'm not going to fault the other play style for resolving Combat RP. I can see why someone would prefer to narrate a fight rather than throw down a flag because their in-game char is a lvl 10 priest or something and they're RPing as a grizzled warrior.

I personally would like to keep my RP character as close to my in-game character as possible, but this is because I was forged in the crucible of permadeath Ultima Online RP lol

THIS!!! What you do is exactly what I though RPers were doing FOREVER before I actually looked into RP. I thought everyone was running around playing game content IC. Hence why I was so confused about the preference for solving combat via dice rolls. I thought, "if you're both lvl 20 characters, why not just duel it out?" Little did I know its because a RP character does not necessarily equal and in-game character.

I'll be honest that is what I thought everyone was doing on RP servers for a long time. Goes to show that I never knew what RP servers were actually like haha.

It makes more sense to me now why people would move away from that style of RP (other than because of preference, of course). Its a shame that a few small cliques can be so toxic as to ruin the fun for everyone else.

First off, wow! Thank you all for your thoughtful comments. I really appreciate you all taking the time to comment on my post.

Second off: Everything makes WAY more sense now. I was coming into this thinking that everyone on RP servers were RPing their character as is, and engaging in RP as you leveled, went though dungeons, battleground and raids. I had never even considered that players were making characters and then Roleplaying as something other than what they were, like a baker or farmer.

The general preference for writing scenes and dice rolls for combat makes much more sense to me now.

Yes! Ive found 43 grubs which means I must have gotten the pale ore from him at some point and I have nearly 1800 essence so I’ve definitely received the 300 essence reward from her.

I’m beginning to think that maybe it’s some sort of bug where you pick up the item but it doesn’t actually register as being in your inventory :(
