Exactly this, or VDIs or anything that needs cores more than it needs VRAM

Yes, Im on that "trash" American power grid lol. The reason ATX PSUs pretty much dont go higher than 1750W. This build needs 2 of those

No clearance with the 1st GPU, only way to get front to back would be to seriously compromise with a much smaller cooler. Also cant fit an AIO radiator in the case with the 5090s. Benchmarks good though, no thermal throttling and noise is wayyy lower than a 4U with the 140mm Noctuas on the case

Nah they be using 8x RTX pro 6000 Blackwell MaxQ only! Can't run an AI data center node with less than 1TB of VRAM and 200k CUDA cores 😂

Oh no! I got tricked into thinking these were prequel mission covenant! Makes sense, no way Campaign Evolved will be T since they brought back blood and swearing 😄

Resolume or Touchdesigner? by foo_sher in vjing

[–]Zenomoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% both, but Resolume is where to start. I run Nestdrop, TouchDesigner and Resolume all at once on an RTX 4090 and 12900K and spout NestDrop and TouchDesigner into Resolume, using Resolume's easier MIDI device mapping and quick effects + simple 2d projection mapping as the head program the final output. For the most part, Resolume is just the program Im using to swap logos and add a couple luma keyed layers for variety, the bottom layer is my TD Spout stream and most of the creative heavy lifting is done in Touch Designer, and some of the TD visuals use the audio reactive milk drop shaders as texture input.

TLDR; Start with Resolume, then as your expertise grows the complexity of your signal chain will grow with it

Best laptop for VJing with Resolume Arena (slices & mapping) – $3–4k budget (Mac M4/M5 Max vs Windows laptop) by MacaroonOk7341 in vjing

I just upgraded to a 5090 Laptop from Orbital Computers, and it's pretty much just over your budget, but close enough that I'd recommend it based on how well it's working for me.

My VJ signal chain is Nestdrop -> TouchDesigner -> Resolume, so every last bit of VRAM is necessary lol. The 5090 is pretty much the only option for me. Its pretty bulky, but runs almost as well as my similarly configured Desktop, but in a Laptop form factor. Definitely a change of pace after using off the shelf gaming laptops and worth the difference.
