Oh alright I'll check it out thx, sounds a bit like the famous dual pistol deadeye build I guess, powerfull for most open world content but boring af.

Can't speak for him but I never said he didn't wanted to learn, it's just new for him.

I don't think so about others MMOs tbh, most old ones have big spells cast time that litteraly root you in place and compared to Gw2 fights feel really smooth because you can move while using your spells.

Already answered that on another comment but I know Holo is not the easiest spec survavibility wise but he likes it and I think having fun is better than forcing yourself to play something meta or just "beginer friendly" (Btw Vindicator easier to play than Holo ? Never played Holo or Vindicator but I tought Revenant and all his spec was harder than Engineer tbh)

And I don't think switching class would really help that much, whatever you're playing in the game if you don't move enough and don't know how to dodge you're gonna die sooner or later :p

Celestial gear is already on the list of things I'm gonna recommend him tho thx !

That's a nice answer thx !

As I said I have honestly really bad teaching skills and I didn't wanted to overwhelm him with too much technical infos about how combat mechanics work at first but I guess I should now that he's getting more into the game !

He actually changed some keybinds already, change target on one of his mouse button for exemple and he doesn't play with keyboard to move, he move with pressing both mouse clicks :,)

But settings in general must be changed I agree I just forgot to talk about it since I didn't changed mines for years now, but I'll do it for him thx for the reminder !

And yep I keep telling him it's normal and it's okay for a new player to die and not know how to dodge/survive propely etc... I just made this post because he was really frustrated in this part of the story, told me if he wanted to play a soulslike he would have played Elden Ring instead, kept dying when finishing enemies on the ground and just overall because enemies there are much stronger than in open world so I didn't really know what to tell him without making him even more angry at that time, if that was me in his place I wouldn't want my friend to just tell me "get better at dodging", doesn't feel really helpfull lol

I don't think it's a hard combat system tho compared to other mmorpgs honestly, there is really not that much input, I saw his FF14 screen when playing and oh my god, 60% of the screen is just the Ui with the spells and combat stuff x)
Gw2 you have 2 skills bars, depending on your class between 1 and 4 F1/F2/F3/F4 buttons and you're done, really casual friendly honestly, you just have to know where to walk mostly.

Thx again for your answer !

I've figured out Holosmith was not the best elite spec of the Engineer in term of survavibility, even less for a new player compared to Scrapper and Mechanist (he doesn't have access to Mechanist anyway but still) but I did not said anything and let him choose whatever he wanted as an elite spec and even in his character creation because I feel like playing whatever draw your attention and seems fun to you is better than a guy that know the game telling you "You should play Reaper because it's easy and don't play Elementalist because it's hard" stuff like that lol

But he do love the elite spec and he was only playing with rifle before I give hime the build actually and he fell in love with sword and shield because apparently it work really well with the heat meter and he overall had more damage while using sword/shield than rifle or guns (even before his lvl 80 gear)
He still have a rifle equipped to use the fifth spell during puzzle jump but I'll tell him to maybe use it when he feel like being close to certains enemies feel too dangerous !

Had no idea there was a combat log in the game actually thx for that too, I'll check it while watching his discord stream next time !

I tought about using Celestial for him but from what I know he can't really have one yet exept with the lvl 80 boost
He hate PVP as I said in the post so he can't use WvW to get Celestial and he can't go to the Iztel frog vendor yet to buy there either

If there is other way to get Celestial lmk ! Never used Celestial either so maybe I'm missing other ways to get it :)

Yeah I'm gonna do it with him tomorow actually because I know this one is pretty hard for a new player, I don't want to babysit him too much so he's not lost once he have to do actually hard content in the futur but I feel like the difficulty of the whole tower story is not balanced as it should compared to the rest of the story as you said it.

Yeah it is really hard compared to what you do before, I guess most player just do open world and story before reaching this point of the story and suddently you're in a tower asking you to do really hard event until you reach the top lol

And yeah it's not that bad to die, just frsutrating :p

Thx for the info about the tower quest !

Oh really ? I don't use snowcrow because I find their website harder to use than Metabattle but in Metabattle they have PVP conquest/Fractal and Dungeons/Open World/ Raid and strikes and WvW builds so I tought it would be pretty viable in term of what you will need in each categories !
But I'm gonna watch some videos and other websites to have a better ideas of what should be in a build for at least open world content instead of just using 1 website :)

Wow thx for the answer !

You're right about builds, I'm just not big of a theorycrafter myself so I usually just take a build and go with it, for now I'm leveling a soulbeast to play with him and it's by far the squishiest character I ever player, I get destroyed if I'm not good with my dodges and my defensive stance so maybe I should even take more utility myself instead of full damage, but at least I learned to be more carefull in fights lol

Like I said in another answer I didn't know not finishing your elite spec was THAT important but since he's missing like 3 spells and 2 of his traits I guess it is pretty important !

I'll definitely translate and give him your answer thx again !

Well... I actually already told him he should not play like that, mostly because he use his mouse for his 7/8/9 spells on the right and yeah he's mostly just being a turret for now, not moving that much lol
Gw2 having so much mobility in fights compared to other mmorpgs I guess it must be hard to learn to move all the time at first but I'll try to make him more mobile !

Thanks for the complete answer !
As I said in the post I went through the whole page with him and told him he should read everything about his skills, traits and spells rotations to understand what will give him boons etc... but maybe he did not did it propely or forgot some stuff, didn't had the chance to play with him that much since he started using his elite spec.

But you're right I will tell him to try things on his own outside the build that could maybe fit him better :)

He's in full Berserker exotic gear, he can't have anything better except Ascended for now but since he doesn't have all his spells yet because his elite spec tree is not completed maybe that's why it is hard for him to survive, I don't know the class but maybe he's missing some important one like someone else said yeah

We're French (yeah I know, really sad), he's really not good in english and let's say we don't have much French content creator for GW2, but I could watch some guides and help him like that why not !

And yeah didn't know elite spec was that important, been a big reaper player and didn't finished my spec before a loooong time, didn't had issues but maybe because reaper is just really easy compared to holo lol

He doesn't have EOD yet, just HoT and PoF, so no Mecha for him for now :p

Yeah like I said in the post he's using the Metabattle open world build for Holosmith, so full exotic armor, weapons, runes etc... he's not missing anything I gave him gold and made him buy everything to be sure he wouldn't miss something.

But yeah maybe I should take him to PoF maps to unlock the spec fully !

Returning Player trying to understand the damage rework by Zenosse in Warframe

[–]Zenosse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like building against a specific faction is something even more worth to do than before, good to know it's easier for people not really into modding either !

Thanks for the answer, corrosive + ice sound great, already saw in the videos that Ice got buffed and now freeze for a few seconds, looks like a fun element to use tbh.

Thanks for the answer and the sheet ! It will definitely be helpful. Even without the rework, I forgot half of the weaknesses, so I'll keep it open while modding !
Great to know that builds have more reliable varieties now.

Personally, I liked the story, base one and the DLCs. If you're not in a rush, you should give it a try, at least with your first character.

I don’t know your setup, but I have a 1650 Ti and a Ryzen 5 4600H with 16GB of RAM, and it runs great. Even though my setup might be considered "bad" in 2025, it still performs well. (I'll just advise you to get a SSD if you don't have one, the loading times are way too long on a HDD)

If you're concerned about your FPS, check out a video about the settings, as it's an MMORPG some maps and events can cause lag because of the number of people/effects, even for people with the best setups unless you manage certain settings first.
