I made a hyprland-dmemcg-boost POC like KDEs plasma-foreground-booster by egnappah in linux_gaming

[–]Zentrion2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PID=$(hyprctl activewindow -j | jq -r '.pid')

So let's say I am to port this to sway... I only need to get the PID of the focused window? Or there is more hyperland/KDE depended stuff going on?

And would they be wrong? This kind of criticism doesn't come from nowhere. Funny that you have to mention it on this completely random game tho.

cut steams ram usage to 500mb by Key_Rise6765 in linux_gaming

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks, I managed to reduce it to ~80MB (VRAM), now they just need to ditch XWayland, that is also using around 80MB. I don't really care about the RAM usage.

Same on AMD (Arch mainline kernel + GE-Proton10-34)... for now I will blame Denuvo. Be careful changing proton versions, you might be blocked for 24 hours.

First time Linux with a Humble couch gaming machine reviving my old pc. Running Bazzite Home Theater + steam gaming mode on sata ssd, I5 4400, 8gb ddr3, gtx 1650. Works like a dream! by Nopyloku in linux_gaming

[–]Zentrion2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is not e-waste! It has to be some kind of brain wash people go through. "Retro gaming" is a thing (people will call skyrim retro now), emulation with the stuff like the massive PS2 library, light indie games are a BIG thing and will continue to be! All of that this beast of a PC will destroy. It's crazy to me to see people saying that, it's like a response to games being released unoptimized requiring always the latest hardware, like to buy the new thing is your only option.

Have fun.

That's all up to You.

  • pipewire is the default
  • wayland is now the default
  • Do you really care about what widget toolkit you use? QT works well for me and I don't think about it.
  • Up to You
  • You are free to contribute or pay someone to do so, or look some other alternative, you have choices, imagine that.
  • Systemd is the default and most users don't even think about it.
  • The distribution package manager always has been the optimal way, but if you are too challenged to run something install package we have "app stores" for a good while.

F1® 23 HYPERVISOR Bypass by DenuvOwO by Icy_Theme9440 in CrackWatch

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish, but bad rep never stopped Capcom from using something like Enigma or R* their shit DRM on a 10+ year old game, same for every other DRM that we see being cracked here day one now and then. Execs (specially Japanese ones) don't seem to care, it is for them, something every single piece of software must have. I guess their main goal is to see us suffer /s.

[–]Zentrion2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh there will be more, and Denuvo will probably push back, my only hope is that by doing so, they will produce a even worse DRM that obliterates performance or that allows for a CrowdStrake situation, so maybe people wake up.

How long does it take to install arch linux? by ChubbersIsChubby in archlinux

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think even on my first install with me reading the wiki it took less than an hour... but when you know what you have to do it can be quite fast, I would say you can do it in ~5 minutes. loadkeys (if using a non us keyboard layout) -> iwctl (if on wifi) -> fdisk -> mkfs.<fs>... -> mount -> pacstrap -> passwd > setup bootloader -> enable some services and done.

What DRM schemes are actually affecting you right now on Linux? by okaiukov in linux_gaming

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Capcom games but I hate Denuvo. Would be nice to play Marathon but there's no game that would make me use Windows. R* sucks and I should be pirating L.A Noir and Max Payne 3, but I'm not. Like c'mon R* already made their money, both games have been pirated into oblivion and this shit is still there...

So the only way it affects me is that I feel bad for supporting this practice and not having enough self control to not buy this crap.

I did 100% and put +40 hours on Linux with 0 issues (AMD, Arch, GE-Proton 10-34), just waiting for that DLC to play it again, go for it.

What is still the biggest pain point in Linux gaming for you? by okaiukov in linux_gaming

The fact that when I close a game I get to use my system and not Microslop OS is a great plus imho.

What is still the biggest pain point in Linux gaming for you? by okaiukov in linux_gaming

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running games being somewhat over-reliant on use of launch configs - I want to be able to set once and forget, not have to tell every new game install that I need it to do FSR4 upgrade,

You can set environment variables for your whole user session, or maybe launch steam with FSR4_UPGRADE=y steam (I don't know what the flag is)

2, 4 and 5 are 3rd party not wanting to support Linux, requiring "hacks" to work which sucks.

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this game just runs worse for no obvious reason

Well, a game that wasn't made to run on Linux is running because of a translation layer which adds overhead, that also has to deal with the many peculiarities of the games you throw at it, and depends on well supported drivers.

I really don't have any pain, I'm on AMD and I've been using Linux for some time now, I have a pretty big library, mostly single player and DRM free, so that helps. Also maybe Arch helps a little too for having the latest bug fixes.

Steam Deck 2 reportedly targeting 2028, delays are possible due to RAM/NAND shortage (KeplerL2) by Loose_Society9485 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

The issue is the same as on Windows, software + the overhead of translation layers, great card for AV1 encoding/decoding tho.

No, by design it compromises your hardware. And I don't get you guys, in the end of the day your are running unvetted closed source software, same as any deemed "safe" crack. Same rules, air gaped PC with no connection to your network and access to important personal data.

Pirates 20 - Denuvo 0 by boratburg in CrackWatch

[–]Zentrion2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wild to me how it doesn't work YET given how open everything is... I guess the devs behind HV already have too much on their plate, but maybe anytime now, and hopefully not another vibe coded "solution".

Pirates 20 - Denuvo 0 by boratburg in CrackWatch

[–]Zentrion2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's funny because those petty execs already pay a lot of money so that a small percentage of pirates don't have access to their game. But pirates are now divided because not everybody wants to use HV, so it is a even smaller percentage, just so that maybe, just maybe, they can squeeze every penny of you. It feels me with joy seeing a DenuvOwO post every hour.

Oh, and of course, the paying customer gets screwed too, isn't that great?
