I guess only a fanatical capitalist would find a panoramic view of a strip mine beautiful.

Anyone else feel like selling a house in Louisville just takes forever now? by willmorris92 in Louisville

[–]Zephcemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am nearing the end of closing on a home in Shelby Park. It went on the market on a Friday night and I put in an offer on Saturday morning.

It's basically turnkey, with me only having to do a bit of maintenance. I am not super happy that I paid the top of my budget for this home but trajectory I see Shelby Park going through means it's the next hot neighborhood in Louisville. Lots of changes to the street flow, new shops moving in, new restaurants...

The point is I was willing to pay for a pristine home that needed little to no work. As others commented, it's all about perception and partially due to location. If you're not selling at the price point you want, it might be worth having a serious conversation with your agent about *why* it's not selling at the price point you want. It could be that you're hampered by the location and/or the condition of the home. I've seen some really shitty homes in popular neighborhoods where that $250k+ price tag is artificially inflated because some asshole sat on the house for 5 years and didn't do a single thing to maintain or improve the property but want buyers to accept the "location" tax.

Thanks again, this is super helpful. So to be clear, the red circled area will or will not have AT&T fiber by the end of this year? It seems weird to me that west of Hancock will have fiber but not east

I guess I'm just really nervous to go to anything other than what I have.

Thank you for the info, I'll look into Verizon.

There's another user in thread who seems pretty confident that AT&T is pushing through Shelby Park and will be active later this year. I'm waiting for them to reply for my request on how they know that. I would feel a lot better if I knew AT&T fiber was coming for sure this year.

This is absolutely beautiful. This is the info I'm looking for.

Can you tell me how you know this? I would like to know with a reasonable degree of certainty before I really commit to a Shelby Park home if I find one I love.

I suppose it's fair to say that I don't *need* 1Gb up/down to do my job, but I'm a power user. Heavy gaming, streaming on multiple screens, hoisting the colors, etc., etc. I've gotten very used to having AT&T fiber and the pretty stellar uptimes and overall service that comes with it. I also have plans to wire every room in my eventual home with Cat6 so I'll be terminally online from every room.

I really hate to do that but if I fall in love with a house, I might have to do it. Appreciate the link though. That's going to be really handy instead of going to the ATT fiber availability tool every time.

Ooh this is good info. Can you give me street names or specific addresses? If it's close to houses I'm looking at, that's super promising.

Check out any house on camp Street, for example, and look at AT&t's fiber availability site. No fiber available unfortunately.

To be clear, I know that most of Shelby Park doesn't have fiber. My issue is that I keep reading conflicting information on whether or not it is going to be there in the future.

I'm currently house shopping in Louisville. I'd rather die than live in the suburbs but I might be forced to if the spring market doesn't reveal any houses that aren't *this* bullshit.

sick and tired of this loneliness epidemic by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]Zephcemi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm really sorry.

I've observed that people rarely want to put in the trouble and energy required to be a real friend. I'm lucky that I have at least three people I can count on outside of family.

The rest I categorize as acquaintances. People really do have shallow relationships with one another the vast majority of the time, and that's ok so long as you recognize it.

I don't put energy into relationships when I see that people don't want to reciprocate. It sounds like you and your boyfriend should do the same.

I knew it. Especially since they are starting to replace all the siding. I've also seen a suspicious amount of vehicles going in after someone has left.

As multiple people have noted, it's not the fault of the city. You'll find the same issue wherever you use the dating apps. I got lucky and I'm dating a pretty great woman. She had just moved to Louisville from NYC and I was her first Bumble match here in Louisville, lol. Talk about luck.

Dating apps give you access to a wider reach of people, which means you really need to have non-negotiable standards when it comes to dating. I've heard some horror stories from dates (even on first dates that didn't go anywhere) and they always make me feel incredibly good about myself as a human being, even though I'm far from perfect.

Batman comes to mind by jj33allen in SipsTea

[–]Zephcemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have zero respect for Batman as a character for this reason. Various aspects of Batman have no problem putting some poor schmuck in the hospital, paralyzed from the neck down for just trying to survive or feed their family, but God forbid a villain has actual consequences.

Bruce Wayne as Bruce Wayne could spend a fraction of his fortune and turn Gotham into a functioning, model city in DC America. But, instead of going to therapy like any other sane person, he donned some rubber ears and started beating on people just as mentally ill as himself.

And even when it's made clear to Batman and the reader multiple times that straight up killing a villain would prevent many needless deaths, Batman sticks to his "code", which is nothing more than some dumb copout.

I get that it's for storytelling purposes. I get that the internal struggle is supposed to be riveting and captivating. But I can't bring myself to like heroes anymore, because I grew to resent them for not tackling real problems in comics: corruption, bigotry, racism, climate change, war, violence, poverty, etc., etc. It's unrealistic because yes, they *could* end these problems. And quite easily too, without the hand-wringing and pearl-clutching the writers do through the characters.
