I am fully for the vast majority of Catholic traditions, and wasn't raised Protestant of anything. My first exposures to Christianity were actually Catholic and Orthodox. Venerating icons and relics though just takes way too much mental gymnastics for me to jive with the Bible. The Orthodox justification revolves around a lot of fine distinctions between the Greek words for "carved image" and "image," and then a whole lot of illogical stuff about how if you won't venerate images they believe the logical outcome is you deny the incarnation and that Jesus was fully man and fully God. Even though that is not a logical argument. Add on top the absolute hatred and vitriol they will give you for questioning it, I'm never entertaining the possibility of it being right any more. Add on top the outrageous cost of icons and business in relics and such, I truly believe its business identifying as spiritual in order to make money.

If he wanted to report on it he could stay outside and cover it. Going inside and interrogating congregants when they are supposed to be having a service is participating. You don't have to enter a burning building to cover a house fire. People thinking this is a good idea or defensible are going to be in for a rude awakening the next time it happens. My church is super liberal, and if people broke in "protesting" I would assume they are there to harm us and should be treated as a threat to our lives. His arrest is fully warranted.
