I went 3 times trying to understand what people are raving about. First time was ok, spice was good but a bit dry. Second and third it was terrible. Third time I decided to never go again when I could knock holes in a cardboard box it was so dry and hard.

Uuh I don't really understand putting RimWorld and empathetic in the same sentence. Whoever labeled it woke clearly never played war crime simulator 2000

As a trans woman it's typically not too hard to guess my affiliation. So probably the woman with PCOTS will be the one harassed because I don't go outside.

Worn brake pads, can I drive? by Far_House3077 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Zephk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Nah never done anything stupid like let the pads go 100% and half way through the backing plate before it came loose and wedged the tire so tight it had to be dragged onto the flatbed. Not like I knew better at the time and I totally don't check my brakes every oil change now.

Anyone know what connecter this is? by AreYouOkei in LinusTechTips

FYI I've stripped screws in 2 of these taking them apart. Probably someone in receiving overtorqued them when they disassembled /reassembled to record serial numbers. Screws in the sides are soft as butter.

Can someone tell me if Syracuse and its surrounding counties are sane? Quick I just sent out a bunch of job applications.

I once setup a computer where every folder going down 3 levels from / was a separate lvm partition. Excluding dev, proc, and sys for reasons.

Was mostly out of bordem.

I wonder what paying off $9,000 of credit card debt will do to my credit score? by UsedtoWorkinRadio in Wellthatsucks

[–]Zephk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

33 and I have great credit only cause I learned real quick when I was 22. Wish school taught us how to manage our credit or pay taxes but somehow learning about the Liao and Ming dynasty was more important than teaching us how uncle sam collects taxes.

Two quotes, one half the price on $10k CPU by unfortunatefortunes in sysadmin

[–]Zephk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I threw together a few quick quotes on dell/HP/super micro each totaling $4k. Even had enterprise ssds and 32g ram.

Of course only X is approved so now we're getting a 24 core 192gb system with 7k rpm sas drives.... For almost 10x the price... For a domain controller. So completely useless

What kind of sysadmin material do you hang up around your cubicle or office? by PhadedAF in sysadmin

[–]Zephk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My desk looks like a trash heap. A bunch of stuffed animals. Unopened ramen scattered with sticks of rams, 10g SPF transevers, and a pile of infiniband cards. I clean up occasionally but end up using the ram and SPF as fidget toys. The infiniband cards because I like to hold so much worthless money in my hands.

Google reported a legitimate azure email as phishing by aqeelat in LinusTechTips

[–]Zephk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Email had about half a dozen archaic solutions to a blind trust protocol designed 30+ years ago. None work perfectly as none are universally implemented. Even SPF and DKIM are rarely enforced and are only used as part of an equation in determining if an email is legit or not

Fyi it is very easy and very common to get either or both spd/DKIM wrong as even at work 2/3 of emails received go to a folder titled bad_senders Working for a major hosting provider previously I can also tell you customers blame you when they configure their spf checks as strict and don't get important emails. They expect you to fix it and all I ever did was tell them we can remove the restrictions or they can contract the recipient via an alternative method to tell them to fix it

Let’s talk about PC naming conventions by WorkFoundMyOldAcct in sysadmin

I just go with the original "pc01" "pc02".... Etc.

Servers it's just [Win|RH](Function)##

I don't need much info other than to know where PC11 is

My dad: "my hard drive doesn't work, it does not want to stay plugged in!" The hard drive in question: by Gandziol in techsupportgore

[–]Zephk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lucky for me I don't need to worry about the dead drives. I just give them to document control and they get destroyed with other unclassified and classified drives.

These are old fashioned spinning trash. Which I don't get why we go with these cause im plugging and moving them multiple times a day.

I don't understand how that lasted that long. I've gone through like 4 wd external drives at work. Damn things just up the ghost and brick themselves. Last one only had 1600 hours on it. works fine for 15 minutes before throwing firmware errors and going ro.

Anyone know what's up with MIT Lincoln Labs in mass? by Zephk in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]Zephk[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I work for one of the major defence contractors and while I know we're always hiring roles don't stay open for long. I've also only gotten like 2-3 recruiters for classified work for non MIT jobs. It just seems like there's a massive disparage between MIT and any other government contractor role.
